It was so crazy back then with WDFA films...there were actually quite a few times when we had to wait at least a week to see the film, sometimes even more, because either the film was completely sold out over the weekend, (this happened with Pocahontas, Aladdin and Toy Story) or we couldn’t even rent the VHS for a while because it kept getting checked out. (Aladdin.). There were two rental stores in the area and the same Aladdin issue happened at both.
You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!
Ahead of the video release, Disney Music has released the full song of "Friend Like Me":
Was disappointed when Genie didn't say "Whoosh! Now Looky Hear!" when I originally saw the sequence. Yeah, I still think the original is better in every conceivable way.
Wow. Will should never have tried to sing...he really can’t hold a note too well, can he?
It’s funny. Rand and I just saw the stage version in London and, despite great performances across the board, we largely felt the production was flat and fairly basic, with no real awe factor even while it was entertaining enough.
But it still bests this in every way. The direction especially is too frantic, trying to infuse the lack of energy that the CG Will can’t provide by being big and messy. As I said about the stage show, there are some titles that can only really be done in animation!
As a matter of fact, there was a fourth Aladdin at the show. Clinton Greenspan, who is wrapping his run on the US national tour and transferring to Broadway within the next week or so.
They've been airing commercials for the home release, among them is one showcasing both films side by side... it's not really doing the remake any favors!
The cave of wonders looks so bad in the remake! The inside was just devoid of the majesty from the original. The sparkly gold that made you want to reach out and grab is gone, in its place is dull looking treasure in a very dark, dreary atmosphere. That whole scene was just awful!
