Basically, Jumanji with a purple t-shirt and bowl cut--
I'd give a week's pay to see that book of archeological sketches start singing "I'm the Map, I'm the Map, I'm the Map!"

Nick Stoller and James Bobin are surprise names on this, which gives it a different level of interest. Seems it could be derivative fun.

This really looks pretty good for a kids' film. And nice to see MIchael Pena being allowed to use his real voice, sans Mexican accent. (He was born and raised in Chicago.)

All things considered, this doesn't look too bad. Kinda funny. That scene where their trapped under water gave me Power Ranger vibes.
Wonder if he will actually TALK or just make monkey sounds like the trailer showed. And if he'll eventually get boots.
He seems more of a Swiper.gaastra wrote:Boots is voiced by Danny Trejo by the way!

I was dubious when this was announced but that trailer makes it look like this could be a fun family film to watch. Gad that Diego is also included in the movie.

Er, I question the mentality of having both a "real" Dora AND a "real" Swiper--
You can have a Real Dora with a Real-monkey Boots, but if they bring in a talking Real Backpack, they'll just be completely at sea at this point.

And James "Disney's Muppets" Bobin directing the movie is easy to believe--
Since Paramount wanted to distance themselves from grownup giggling over the preschool-cable show, we get a similarly Muppets-condescending gag early on in the movie about how little Dora, when she was 6, had a strange habit of talking to invisible people who weren't there:
"Can you say 'Delicioso'?"
"...Just ignore her, it's a phase she's going through."

The exact line used was "Sh.. she'll grow out of it"
Actually quite liked that joke. It's like making fun of the shows roots in the best possible way.

Re: Dora the Explorer Live Action trailer. Dora with a knife!
Saw Dora. I was hoping it would maybe be aimed at people who grew up with the show and were now older and about to start families of their own (or like me, a parent of kids who used to watch the show). While there was nostalgia to be had, this was clearly made specifically for kids. From that perspective it was really good. From my pov, it was a little dumb, but a lot of fun if you just accepted it for what it was and went with it.
I will say the reason it worked in any way at all is because of the actress who played Dora. She was all in on playing the character sincerely -- not with a wink and a nod and not over the top. Because she played the role straight, it made going with the plot much easier and much more fun.
