What's Gullivers Travels?

Is this a year that 8 features are eligiable?

If so, I would say that there's room for:

Chicken Little
Howl's Moving Castle
Madagascar
Robots
Steamboy
Corpse Bride
Valiant
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

Interesting to see, if it's three, if Madagascar or Corpse Bride will take the "third" place spot, or if Chicken Little will be present at all.

It's a safe bet, however, that W&G will be nominated and - disappointing box office tail off notwithstanding - probably and deservedly go on to win.

I think they have to be submitted by the studio for consideration.

I honestly don't know WHY it wasn't. It has a shot for best song. ER.... HAD!

Seriously though, is Disney really so obsessed with pushing Chicken Little to greatness that they aren't even going to submit Pooh for consideration? I mean - this is one of their most time honored and classic characters - let's be real. Are they really that scared of splitting the votes for Chicken Little???

I did some research.

From the Academy's rules for consideration in this category:

"An animated feature film is defined as a motion picture created using a frame-by-frame technique of at least 70 minutes in running time with a significant number of the major characters animated, and in which animation figures in no less than 75% of the picture's running time."

On Animation Nation someone said that it WAS indeed submitted, but rejected based on length.

Well - while one 'conspiracy theory' is crushed (thank you for answering my question - my previous statement was based on someone else's answer that it wasn't submitted which I assumed they knew they were talking about) it does reveal a serious loopwhole in the Academy Awards. A feature film must be 70 minutes in length as stated and the rules also state that a short can be no more than 40 minutes. This means that films falling in a 30 minute timespan (40-70 minutes) are not eligible for either award!

So Saludos Amigos and Dumbo would never have been able to be considered in their respective years had the award been in practice...

And how many DTV level films will we see now upped from theor 66-68 minute TV-friendly running times just so they might qualify for the Oscars?

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride all the way. i loved that movie. or howls movieing castle to. that was preety good. but in the end i what Tim Burton's Corpse Bride to win.
