Re: 2016 Oscar Contest - TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO ENTER!!!
Just a reminder that TODAY is the last day to enter. This may be the fewest people we've had playing in years, so your chances of winning that prize are good! The contest closes at 11:59pm EASTERN time!

Re: 2016 Oscar Contest
Thanks for organising the contest again team. This year, I decided to try something different and I put no thought into my vote and decided to just follow what was awarded at the various guilds during the awards season. Let's see how that pans out for me. And at the moment I'm 7th on the leaderboard. That's the highest I think I will be in the competition.

Re: 2016 Oscar Contest
I'm so-o-o incredibly awful at this that I don't bother trying, anymore (my 'correct picks' ratio hovers around 30% .. and the last time I'd entered, I came in dead last)
Best of luck to everyone who did enter, though..!

Re: 2016 Oscar Contest
Just looked at the leaderboard...actually not a bad number of entrants.
Droo...James' mathematical calculations, based on consolidating your previous picks and amalgamating your resulting scores, multiplying them by each number and dividing each category actually show you would have probably won this year.

I stink at this. I still try but fail so bad every year. Oh well it's still fun to guess.

Re: 2016 Oscar Contest
Congratulations to our winner! Msonsky correctly picked 18 out of the 22 categories we count and is our 2016 champion! (Msonsky also got the two categories we only use for tie breaking purposes right for an impressive 20/24.)
Thanks to everyone who played! You can see how you did here: http://animatedviews.com/contest/oscar2016/results.php

Re: 2016 Oscar Contest
Wow, second place? I think that's by far the best I've ever done with this!
Now I'm beating myself up for not going with my gut feeling when it was telling me that Writing's On The Wall would win for Best Song.

Re: 2016 Oscar Contest
Wow, only James got Visual Effects correct. I was about to say, "What? No one guessed Mad Max would win?" but then I remembered that Ex Machina had gotten it. And I had watched the whole ceremony too, which just goes to show how quickly I had forgotten Ex Machina's win. (No reflection on the film itself, which I haven't seen yet. In fact, I didn't watch a whole lot of movies this year.)
Morricone and Inside Out were just about the only ones I was really "rooting" for this year, so I'm glad they won. (I would have been happy with Williams or Newman too, though).

Re: 2016 Oscar Contest
I'm still shocked I was the only one predicting Ex Machina for VFX. Star Wars and The Martian were great but really more of the same. Mad Max was cool but just a different kind of more of the same. Ex Machina was unique, gave viewers that wow moment when they first saw some of the effects, and all done of the cheap. I really thought it was going to be a popular pick when I filled out my ballot.Vernadyn wrote:Wow, only James got Visual Effects correct. I was about to say, "What?
