John Lasseter predicts that iPhones will change nature of filmmaking
You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

A bit ironic since JL has technically never made a movie with an actual camera.
"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift--that is why it's called the present."

Uh... They've been doing this for a couple of years.
Where has JL been?!?!?
How many videos/minimovies are shot on ANYBODY'S smartphones, period?
(There are a LOT more smartphones from other companies besides Apple. I have an Android myself. They're NOT much different than the iPhone to be honest!)
Frankly, it's sad that JL sounds like a VERY outdated Apple commercial!
Does he really have to evangelize so obviously for a company he's tied to (no matter how indirectly)?

To be completely fair here, while this headline only mentions the iPhone, those that read the actual article will note it quotes him as saying "iPhone, the GoPro, and the other tiny cameras that we're all carrying around".There are a LOT more smartphones from other companies besides Apple. Some place far, far away where they've never heard of "Found footage" and don't want to push it all off a cliff.GeorgeC wrote:Where has JL been?!?!?
Or at best, like one of Google Glass's commercials where they don't know what to sell about it, and try pushing it as a GoPro for people to wear while they're skiing or parachute jumping.Frankly, it's sad that JL sounds like a VERY outdated Apple commercial!
At worst, like someone who just now found YouTube and thinks it's neat.

I'm pretty sure John Lasseter's 1979 CalArts student film Lady and the Lamp was shot with an actual camera (on an animation stand) ..Dacey wrote:A bit ironic since JL has technically never made a movie with an actual camera.
