Re: AV 2011 Oscar Contest

Post by Wonderlicious » February 14th, 2011, 6:00 pm

Just a quick question - is this open to people outside of North America? I just wanna check before I go for it.

Sure, why not! The gift card will be from the US Amazon store and the discs are probably US region coded.

I think Fincher will get Director while Speech takes Picture, though.

UPDATE: Wasn't going to do it right now but as I was checking over the page I started playing with the options and thought I may as well! So I think I've submitted my choices...I didn't get any kind of error. :)

Can I please change my choice for Best Picture? When I printed out my choices I noticed that clearly through my rushing I clicked the wrong choice. My entry says The Kids Are Alright but I wanted The King's Speech. Is it possible to change?

I tried to remain subjective in my pickings eg choosing Christian Bale over wanting to see an Aussie win that category. Or choosing Melissa Leo over the ppssibility that the Academy may want to recognise the career of HBC. BUT I did let my heart decide on Best Original Song. I really want Tangled to be an Academy Award winning film.

CHECK THE FIRST MESSAGE IN THIS THREAD TO CONFIRM YOUR ENTRY WAS RECEIVED!

Since you'll note there have been a lot of spambot entries I've had to throw out, I've added a test question to the Oscar form that hopefully will weed most of those out. Let me know if it causes any issues.

Finally entered today. Hoping that my ballot went through, as I had to refresh the page.

If the ballot went through you should have got a "success" page along with a link to print your list.

Cool - nice to see so many entrants!

Despite my lack of show around here recently, I'm throwing caution to the wind to stay up all night on Sunday to catch the Oscars and make it to the live-chat right here in the AV Forum.

Looking forwards to it! :)

Just a reminder about our live chat tonight!

We'll keep track of the contest in real time as well.

Here's a few stats about the contest:

- 101 entries this year (including staff who aren't eligible for the prize)
- four categories had a 90% or higher consensus
- two categories had a 40% or lower consensus

UK time is +8hrs from LA, so its 5:30pm start means a 1:30am-6am marathon night for me. Luckily for me, working to LA time for five years some time ago has meant I've never really been able to break the sleeping pattern: mornings are hard for me here, but I can go right into the night without any problems (and I've taken tomorrow morning off so I can get some shuteye before getting busy again after lunch).

Oh dear... That is what you get for just kinda not having a clue and filling the ballot in randomly. Still, that is kinda embarrassing :P

I've been running Oscar contests for 14 years now. And believe me, eventually everyone has an embarrassing year!
