But not nearly as much as Daniel Craig. It's a shame the next Bond movie got cancelled (after they had already started filming it, no less. If the studio decided not to do anymore, why oh why didn't they let them finish the one they were working on first?).

I hadn't heard that they had actually begun filming it, Eddie. But I could be wrong.

And I'm sure that Craig will still play Bond again. Now that things have been resolved with "The Hobbit," perhaps MGM will be able to take care of their other problems.

No...they had not started filming it.

There wasn't even a script or a director in place, although a story was in circulation and they were talking to various helmers.

But filming? No. If that had been the case they would have completed it, knowing that the income would fill a void in their finances.

Funny, I saw a brief "on the set" piece on one of the entertaiment shows (The Insider? Entertainment Tonight?) shortly before it was cancelled. How could they have done the piece if there was nothing going on? Curious...

Ah, but was it on the set of the next Bond movie? Or B-roll archive footage of Solace? All I know is that not a frame of film has been shot on any new Bond, though apparently a script has now been done and is waiting for a greenlight from poor old MGM.

Casting news, not final: Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and Sally Field as Aunt May.

Martin Sheen... eh. I can see Sally Field as Aunt May, though.

For me it's the other way around...Martin Sheen is going to be excellent as Ben, though I can see Field working too, if they make her up right.

I'm really happy about Sheen and Field but I'm also very sad about no Dylan Baker as Lizard. He would have been so perfect, as was Simmons for J. Jonah Jameson. I understand they want to make a fresh start but they're basically throwing away these amazing actors just to reboot a franchise yet again.

It's also kind of a shame about Thomas, Bryce, and Topher from 3. As weak as that film was they all obviously had a lot of potential, even with Venom being left for the very end and not written particularly well. It's understandable about not bringing Harry back (honestly I really thought his story should have ended there, even though his death wasn't executed AT ALL the way it should have been) but they're basically cutting off every limb from what was by and large a healthy franchise just to rebuild something that will likely succeed but no telling how much (especially since all three of the first Spidey films turned a HUGE profit.) I don't know....the whole thing is just so exhausting. It's kind of hard for me to care by now, but I'll defintely give it a chance.
You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

Well the bottom line is that in this new world, Raimi's Spidey never happened, so it's understandable that none of the actors would be back. I wouldn't be surprised if we did see some of the same villains returning with different character stories in potential sequels, once this first outing provides the complete whitewash and flushes away all memories of the previous films.

Just like Nicholas Hammond has been consigned to history, so will Tobey, Kirsten, etc. My only beef is that it's ridiculous to basically remake the first movie again less than ten years after it debuted. At least with Batman and Star Trek they've taken alternate universe routes and not really covered the same ground. But here it's going to be Peter Park gets bitten by radioactive spider, becomes superhero and faces off a superhuman menace, just like we saw all that time ago in, um, 2002.

Pretty lame. I can't believe they're casting Uncle Ben at all. They could have just done a film series that took place roughly between the first two Tobey films--- not necessarily referencing them, but avoiding conflicts or covering the same ground.

This is my one big bugbear about this - it's a remake less than ten years after the "original", purely being made to make money and keep the rights. I'd be more impressed if they recast and recrewed, but simply made them "sequels" to the first three. This is just starting again, and it's pointless.

I just wish that Sony had done what Paramount ended up doing with "Iron Man" and just let the rights go to Disney. We all know it's going to happen one day anyway, so why bother delaying it?

Well at least there will be consistency with the Iron Man and Avengers films, what with Paramount still being involved, as I understand it, on a production level. So the same teams will be behind those films...just that now Disney will be the ones handling the marketing and distribution.

I just wish they could have cast an actress that looked this good as Gwen...!

Image

Bryce Howard looked really nice in the last Spidey film and captured the comic book look so perfectly. Especially with the black headband!

The stills I've seen of the new actress -- not so much!
