Banjo the Woodpile Cat

Direct from Bluth himself.

No, I hate giving credit to the site I got the link from!

P.S. -- Read my latest post on the RIP, Dave Stevens thread. There's a MUCH better gift coming out for Rocketeer fans in October.

Banjo's okay, but I'm not sure they really had to do it as a 2-disc set...

Wait, is this the right link? Or did it sell out in less than 40 minutes? Looking at your link Amazon isn't even selling it, just one copy from a seller.

Darn shame, because I'm almost positive I love this film. I don't remember what happened to my VHS copy, but now I have to keep an eye out for the DVD. Or did I rent it... ? Gah, now it's going to be bugging me!

Daniel,

That seller IS Don Bluth.

Look closely at the description!

There a number of other people who have Amazon shops who do the same thing, too. Thunderbean (Steve Stanchfield) sells DVDs this way, too.

Amazon is just sort of an intermediary/marketplace to sell product on. It doesn't mean Amazon has all this stuff. I've bought plenty of things this way and it's usually pretty safe as long as the person selling has a reasonably high approval rating. I don't buy from people with less than 95% if I can help it.

Bluth is the only one selling this DVD.

OH!

I didn't know it was actually him, I thought it was just a seller who had a close name and I misinterpreted your "Direct from Bluth himself." And on further inspection, I see it's just a marker and not really just one being sold. Wow, how did I miss that!? Well, no matter, I'm putting it on my wish list and buying it at a later date. Thanks for the news. :)

Edit - oh this was posted on Cartoon Brew where it specifically stated it came from Bluth. Now it makes sense.

I've never seen this, but I've always wanted to.

Would either of you (or anyone else that's seen it) say it's worth buying?

Depends on how much you like Bluth.

I'm so-so.

The artwork in most of his films is great, but the story execution leaves something to be desired.

Look, he's a wonderful animator and artist but I don't think he's the most solid director out there.

That said, Banjo is probably one of the better films he made.

Take that as you will. Cautious recommendation.

I'm not too crazy about 2-disc sets for short films, but I DID buy the Rex Steele DVD set (1 DVD + CD soundtrack) and that was an even shorter film made by students! Banjo WAS made by Disney animators in the late 1970s/early 1980s.

My main reason for getting this might be the extras, which detail an important part of Disney history--- the departure of many key people. Certainly, we're unlikely to see this brought up on a Disney DVD set.

Banjo is essentially a re-run of The AristoCats, and is very well animated on par - if not better - with the films of the late 1970s.

Given the length, a two-disc may be excessive, unless these are two DVD5s, which I'm betting they are. The note of widescreen and full screen is interesting: I hope both are on there as it was animated to an open matte frame, so both would be valid.

Glad to see that Don Bluth is still out there. Now can somebody please give him the money to do Dragon's Lair? He's got the script, storyboards, staff, everything but the funding! He's not getting any younger, ya know!

Hey eddievalient, I think Don bluth is trying to find the right studio that can make the dragon's lair movie....I think he should try unverisal studios. If that happens it would mark Don's first movie there since Land Before time{the first one with Speilberg}

Well, at his website, Bluth has said that interest isn't the problem. He's gotten folks interested, but no one want's to invest in hand drawn animation due to cgi being the current big thing. It's very frustrating.

Really?, Darn it. I mean I would love a dragon's lair movie but however its their loss that they wont do it in hand-drawn animation.
