What's the other quote? Apart from just seeing it once (even he didn't feel the need to see it again then!), the rest of what he says sounds supportive to me, even if he's being polite.

I might have taken it out of context...it just seemed to me when he said that a darker version: "would take some good directing" that it was implying that Singer's wasn't that good....but I guess he didn't mean it that way. (Plus I know he has enough class not to diss Singer in public.)

"I do think you could probably take Superman into some other areas today. I think maybe it's ready to break the mold slightly and bring a little greater sense of reality into it. Not contemporizing it to like today. Just making the heavies -- and the situation that is the tension piece -- a little more broken away from the comic-book character. It would take some tricky writing, some good acting and some good directing."
I think I might also have been thinking about how in the book Superman vs. Hollywood, it said that a couple of people connected to STM, one of them possibly Donner, didn't care much for or wouldn't comment on SR....just from memory though, so I'm not 100% sure about it.

Interesting Routh interview: (It talks about the new Kevin Smith film he's in, plus some on Superman)

http://www.iesb.net/index.php?option=co ... &Itemid=99

Although according to this site, (which linked to it) it's still not totally a go whether or not there will be a total reboot, partial or none at all--according to rumor, opinion at WB is still very much split:

Routh not out yet as Superman

Submitted by Archangel on Tue, 10/21/2008 - 18:05.

* Superman

Okay. I've been siting back while digging into this matter and I've gotten as close to the bottom of it as I'm going to without having an actual meeting with execs.

And those who have ridiculed Jerrytoons for still seeing this as a possibility should apologize.

Here's what I've got.

* Horn - Wants to keep Brandon Routh as they have apparently become friends outside of the studio. To me, this is a conflict of interest and should not have any bearing on the film, but would prove he simply does not care about fans or the true potential of a Superman film.
* Tull - Doesn't even want a reboot. Simply wants a sequel and is hoping to get back money lost on the SR. If I were him, I'd want my money back too, but a reboot that gets the fans in the seats who sat out SR is the best way to do so.
* Robinov - Reboot. Period. He seems to be the only one who has the overall best interest of the character in mind right now, but doesn't get to make the final decision.

So, if you really want this to end up as Routhman Returns films, do nothing, but if you want to see a true Superman film, get your a** on the phone and let Alan Horn know this. Flood him with emails. Send him letters. Form a picket line outside WB. Do something to save Superman!

This is what we call beating a dead horse.

It's a bad film ---

I think Vi's talking about the next one in the series, George. :)

I think I said something to the effect that Bryan Singer was NOT the guy to do a Superman film...? Frankly, I wasn't crazy about the X-Men series, either. Like I said, no sense of imagination or originality in that fellow and he obviously has not read the source material, either.

There are just so many hacks being given tens of millions of dollars to screw up these characters.

What happened to people who APPRECIATED these characters and knew how to tell a good story?

I sure don't see any Class A directors who are fans rushing to do these kinds of films.

Despite some recent rumors to the contrary, according to this article/interview it's possible (although not certain) that Singer might not be returning:

He's not "officially involved" in talks, according to the interview.

This is kind of an old topic, but according to this link, it's pretty much assured that Bryan Singer will not be returning and that a reboot is very likely on the way. Also, Brandon Routh's contract expired in April, so he may or may not be Superman again. (they would have to negotiate a new contract with him.)

Yeah, I read as much in Wizard. The article said that he may talk to Fox about doing another X-Men film, which would suit me just fine.

This might actually be "it" this time:

According to Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood column (referred to in ComicBookMovie.com) Chris Nolan will be overseeing a new Superman film (definitely a reboot.) Most likely he will not be directing, but "steering it in the right direction" according to the article

http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/its-a ... rd-batman/

(It is in very early stages, but will definitely be happening.)

EDIT: I am so sorry! I can't believe I didn't see the news section. :(
(Also sorry to add another post--my edit button is gone for some reason.)

Anyway, it's a good place to discuss. :)

Sorry about the edit button. With the new forum software not every setting has been fixed. I've changed the edit option so you can now edit posts within two weeks of posting them. (There is a limit because someone once apparently got mad about something and then went through the forums editing out EVERY post they had ever made!)

Chris Nolan on Superman? As long as it doesn't distract him from doing the next Batman, I'm all for it. WB obviously knows when they have a good thing going.
