I think this popped up somewhere else around here.

The funny thing is, apart from the exiting of the two principals, the unit is set to continue as it was, as far as anyone can tell.

There are a lot of scratching heads asking what the big deal is here and why the announcement isn't more along the lines of a simple "these guys are moving on" approach.

I remember now...it was in the Golden Compass thread, which is widely being seen as the reason WB have decided to make New Line's decisions for them.

I've never been able to put my finger on exactly what it is, but it seems to me that most of New Line's films have a certain indescribable something which says "this is New Line". Whether it's a crime film like Seven or a comedy film like Austin Powers, that something is there. I'm afraid that none of their films will ever have that again. The only analogy I can think of is that it's like Disney releasing films through Touchstone. It might say New Line, but it's really a WB picture released under the New Line name. So long old friend, you will be missed.

In another thread (or should I go over to the Compass thread?), didn't think it was just Golden Compass, so much as the eerie parallels to another studio executive's tragic search to claim-jump their biggest third-party hits:

Anyone want to draw uncanny similarities between Michael Eisner being booted after antagonizing Pixar and trying to fill in the studio's future with "Chicken Little", and Bob Shaye antagonizing Peter Jackson and the Tolkien estate, and literally promoting the Compass teaser as "the next New Line fantasy" (complete with shots of the One Ring) before its gruesome death at the box office?...

(I'll draw one:
After Eisner was kicked out, all the fan boards started buzzing "Have they started filming 'Rapunzel' yet?"...
And see how long a New-Line reshuffle thread can hold out on any board before some fan posts "Have they started filming 'The Hobbit' yet?") :D
