I won't be going to see this. There are only 2 Dreamworks films I like, and the 'Shrek' franchise has been killed by the third film. This'll do really well at the box-office because of Seinfeld's involvement, but don't expect rave reviews.

I'm kind of hoping for a fun little film along the lines of Mr Bug Goes To Town.

I don't think Bee Movie is going to have the commercialism streak that Shark Tale ultimately stank of.

Unfortunately, commercialism (and Dreamworks gushing over how big a name deal they could make) seems to be the entire reason it's made:

They've been 100% pushing "Jerry Seinfeld came to US when he wanted to make his next project!...That's a big event, you know!" as if that actually meant something to 7-12-yo.'s. I'm still at a loss to understand why it should. :?
Even the publicity for the movie tries to characteristically portray Jerry as thinking the whole "studio cartoon" thing is embarrassing, and like he'd rather be elsewhere...Uh, gosh, guys, don't feel you have to go through with this just for us.

Everything about the movie seems so out of touch with what audiences go to real animated movies to see (see, the bee sues the humans over honey--it's lawyer jokes!), this could very well be the camel's-straw for "Dreamworks doesn't know how to make Pixar, it only knows how to sell it."
And as a recent audience survey found out,
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071010/fil ... =AjnlO8k7f
most audiences really don't care about whether Dreamworks got the rights to Seinfeld's next project.

With all due respect none of us have seen the film yet--you can't tell much from trailers. (DW trailers have never been very good to begin with)

this could very well be the camel's-straw for "Dreamworks doesn't know how to make Pixar, it only knows how to sell it."
DreamWorks is not trying to make Pixar, because Pixar would never use Seinfeld to begin with, or try to make an animated film patterned after his unique brand of humor. (Ditto Woody Allen.) DreamWorks are there own entity.

Unfortunately, commercialism (and Dreamworks gushing over how big a name deal they could make) seems to be the entire reason it's made:
Like I said, no offense again, but you have no way of knowing that, especially since the film hasn't even been released. :?

most audiences really don't care about whether Dreamworks got the rights to Seinfeld's next project
Maybe not, but audiences like funny, interesting animated films with cool bee designes and good voices. (Not just Seinfeld, but Renee Z and a bunch of others.) DreamWorks may be using Seinfeld to sell the film to a great degree, but that doesn't mean the WHOLE FILM is Seinfeld in a an animated bee costume. :P

as if that actually meant something to 7-12-yo.'s. I'm still at a loss to understand why it should. Confused
12-year-olds are not DW's only audience, and they're aware of that. And I'm sure Pixar was when they used Owen Wilson and Paul Newman to help sell Cars.

Shark Tale is actually a good film,i like it Very Happy
Me too! :)

Yeah, but that doesn't mean Bee Movie won't be good just because the Shrek films have run their course. :)

Some of the commercials that are currently airing, are very annoying. I still think its beyond cute, but surely they could do better.

Yeah, I don't like the commercials either--have never liked DreamWorks' trailers. I still wish they had Disney to help them sell their films. :(

I like Shark Tale, too! :)

Anyone seen the Seinfield Bee Movie ads on NBC? I watched 'em during The Office last night...Thought they were alright, but not as funny as the bee suit trailers.
