Has anyone here ever seen The Amazing Spider-Man, from 1977 ..? It was a 'TV movie' (and then a 2-season series) here in the U.S., but I think the pilot film was released theatrically, overseas. I actually liked it quite a lot (but then again, I was 8 years old at the time, and I liked a lot of stuff that's considered 'junk' now). Still, if it ever got a DVD release, I'd probably pick it up. :P

I love the first half of Raimi's first Spider-Man film (the 'origin' was tone-perfect; the Green Goblin, not so much) .. and all of Spider-Man 2 (though Dr. Octopus is by far my favorite 'Spidey' villain, so I probably would've liked it, regardless). I haven't bothered to see Spider-Man 3, yet .. I'll probably wait for it on HBO .. :?

There's too many other movies I'd rather see in theaters this summer, and I just haven't much interest in Spider-Man 3 .. if it were just a Sandman film, maybe .. but with Sandman and Venom and Goblin 2/whatever they're calling him, it just sounds too 'muddied' for my taste .. at least, for $11 worth of my taste, if that makes sense.

No, droo, it's not.

I've spoken at length about the Nicholas Hammond/1970s/80s Spidey series. I have no idea why Sony - who own them - don't put out a "trilogy" box set, at the very least, comprising of the feature pilot and the two later "features" that were issued overseas and made up of two, two-part epiosdes.

Somewhere else on the boards, there are images of that series and a breakdown of the feature specials I listed somewhere.

I was 8 too...and Wednesdays at 8pm here in the UK used to be magic time, despite the funky effects and even funkier disco music score!

You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

I voted Spider Man 3. Little long, but great action.

Indeed I do! I'm glad to know the 1970's live-action Spider-Man is not forgotten! :)

----------

Now .. has anyone ever seen the japanese Supaidâman live-action TV series, from around the same time ..? It's freaky .. kind of like the 1960's Batman TV series (check out his Spider-Mobile!), mixed with Ultraman or Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers; complete with costumed ninjas, and the occasional giant rubber-suit monster!

OMG!

Wow...I always thought this was some crazy figment of my imagination! Wow! I saw some of this in, must have been 1982, and never got it out of my head. After all these years, I thougt it must have been something to do with the Hammond series and any other details were lost in my foggy memory. I totally remember this now. I think we had a one-hour tape with two episodes on it. The tape we had was actually Japanese, so it wasn't dubbed and there were bo subtitles (there could have been, but I don't remember being able to work out what was going on)!

That show was crazy. It was like the Power Rangers of its time. Man, I'd love to see some of that again. :)

I have all the Rhino tapes of the Hammond series, which include the majority of the episodes. The show had limited effects, but it wasn't too bad.

I also have a tape that includes four eps from the Japanese show. It must be seen to be believed. Mighty Morphin' Power Spidey!

If you look on YouTube, they have bits and pieces of the Japanese Spidey mech series from people's DVD/VHS collections.

Yes, the godawful series HAS been released on Japanese home video!

Mecha Spidey makes the Hammond look like a masterpiece by comparison.

It may also interest our PSP owners and other video collectors to know that FilmThreat.com hosts multiple downloadable video versions (PSP, iPod, Quicktime, etc.) of the opening to the live-action Japanese Spider-Man series.
