Meet The Robinsons

It does seem that Disney's "Art Of/Making Of" books have gotten 'slimmer' over the last few years .. not only in page-count, but in actual 'Art' from the pre-production phases of the film (as opposed to finished 'stills' from the film), or even real 'Making Of' information.

For example, Atlantis' "Art Of" book was basically just a glorified movie script, while the Home on the Range "Art Of" book featured a lot of (frankly, kind of stupid) tongue-in-cheek "behind the scenes" stories from Maggie's perspective, as if the film were actually shot on a set, like a 'live action' movie. And The Emperor's New Groove didn't get an "Art Of" book, at all.

I will likely buy The Art of Meet the Robinsons, and I'm sure I will enjoy the art it does contain .. but it's a long way from the sumptuous 'coffee-table' "Art Of" books which Disney produced for its 1990's films.

The only art of... book was for Hercules. We bought it in Disneyland Paris but I had to wait 3 months until christmas before I could read it! It was amazing though.

Oh wait no, I just realised I got the Fantasia 2000 book as well in the silver casing when I was in Disneyworld Florida back in 2001. That was also a beautiful book.

I may get the MTR book because this is the first Disney film in a few years that I'm really excited about and I think the designs look beautiful.

You might or might not have already seen Eric Hedman's "countdown" posts on AN talking up MTR.

(apparently he's seen it and liked it a whole lot.

It's a movie about a kid named Lewis.

There is a good story.

And it has funny moments.

And lots of heart.

It is well animated and gorgeous too.

The art direction is superb.

Yay!!!!!

Btw, their finally promoting the movie, Vi! I saw five commercials today, so yay!

You MUST see this movie in 3-D. Miss it and you've missed it forever (or until someone invents a 3-D hdtv and dvd player and mass markets it to the point where Disney releases this).

It looks AMAZING in disney digital 3d.

Here's some cool info on the Art of MTR book, thanks to Eric from AN!

It's a really good book. It's laid out exceptionally well, and you really get to see the interplay between character designers and art directors, story sketch, story head and director.

The best part is that it follows the progression of the movie and shows some discarded concepts along the way while keeping the format of interdepartmental dialog alive throughout.

Its freaky fun to see how Steve Anderson and Story Head Don Hall trade off story beats. Their styles are DIFFERENT, but you can see they are coming from the same Universe. I want to see something Don directs sometime soon.

There is also a nifty page where you get to see Joe Moshier, next to Wm Joyce, next to Karen de Jong painting on Dev models Next to a rendered beauty shot.

I want to see Nathan Greno's sketch style picked up as a line style for a short.

Joe Mateo's Dinosaur fight panels are awesome.

I want to see Aurian Redson do a comic strip. His style is so graphic and fun. It's like a lazer beam and the gags are just POW!

There is a page toward the end that has a whole bunch of story sketch panels that...look like they never saw layout...or animation.
But it looks like, when there is a DVD, there is the potential to see some amazing animation and some hilarious gags that never made it.
