The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has officially disqualified Luc Besson's "Arthur and the Invisibles" (known internationally as "Arthur and the Minimoys") from contention for the Best Animated Feature Oscar, citing their rule that a film's running time must have 75% of it devoted to animation.
On the plus side, Besson-according to "Variety" magazine-is moving ahead with plans for two sequels: "Arthur and the Vengeance of Malthazar" for 2009 and "Arthur and the War of Two Worlds" in 2010.

I'm so sick that this is how french animation is now seen thanks to Luc Besson's crappy highly marketed movie. If it was not for the big bucks Besson have, this movie would be a major flop. For french animation, let's see Sylvain Chomet's Les Triplettes de Belleville or wait for the next Bibo Bergeron's movie: A dragon in Paris.

Haven't seen it yet, but I think Arthur looks like just the kind of fantasy film I would enjoy (not like the extremely disappointing Narnia), so hoping that I will enjoy it when I see it, I'm actually glad to hear of a sequel as long as it keeps the same quality that the first looks like it has.

Y'know what's really weird? That character with the short red hair "bowl" cut looks almost exactly like Milla Jovovich's charcter "Leelu" in The Fifth Element!I'm so sick that this is how french animation is now seen thanks to Luc Besson's crappy highly marketed movie. If it was not for the big bucks Besson have, this movie would be a major flop.
She also looks a bit like Natalie Portman's character in that other Besson flick The Professional.
You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!
