Sorry if i sound harsh, but this is my take on things.
Cars is going to win, hands down. You think they'll give it to Monster House or Happy Feet--both used Motion Capture, there's no way.
Or Open Season....C'mon, with a Pixar film in the running?
Yeah, right.

Then, I can't help but wonder, why is "Over the Hedge" nominated for Best Picture?I'm not trying to be a conspiracy theorist here....but I think it has to do with the Aardman-DW split and resentment at DW interference with this film, since there's been all this talk about how DW and Aardman are mad at each other, etc....
And why does "Flushed Away" have just as many nominations as "Cars"?
And why does, oh, forget it!

It's just perfunctionary. Everyone knows it won't win....against a Pixar film? It doesn't have a chance. Doesn't it strike you as odd that FW got ALL those other noms except for Best Pic? 'Cause if FA got a Best Pic nom, it might actually win it! (unlike OTH). And that would mean a DW film, (one that DW collaberated on UNLIKE W & G) would win an Annie for Best Pic...we can't have that, can we?Then, I can't help but wonder, why is "Over the Hedge" nominated for Best Picture?
Those other noms for Flushed Away are only there because the animation community is so supportive of Aardman. The lack of a Best Picture nom is an intentional snub towards DW.
But wha'ever...just my opinion.

Dang, I haven't been here in a while and y'all talk a lot.
Superman Returns will probably get a nod in special effects and not much else.
...Yes, I spell PIXAR in all caps... it looks better.
As for Dreamworks putting "Over the Hedge" in for Best Picture. A lot of studios but in their top movies for ALL categories, they just don't always get advertised. I'm sure Disney put in "Cars" as a potential "Best Picture" but don't advertise it because it probably won't be nominated. Altough a snowball has a better chance in hell than this movie does being nominated for "Best Picture" there's always a chance.

I doubt it'll even get that, actually. The special effects really weren't all that good. (For starters the flying over the balcony scene--FAKE! It looked worse than a Lois and Clark episode. Superman falling to Earth--can you say blue screen?Superman Returns will probably get a nod in special effects and not much else
And the set design was lame, ugly, gray, and incredibly depressing (sort of like the rest of the film.)

I'm going to say this only once, Vi, because I like you:It's just perfunctionary. Everyone knows it won't win....against a Pixar film? It doesn't have a chance. You're coming across as paranoid.
There, I said it.
