The Disney Animator Training Scheme

Post by lizzimba » October 13th, 2006, 5:42 pm

Does this still exist?

I've been trying to find info about how to get into training for Disney to no real avail, and any info anyone could provide me would be very helpful indeed!

I'm assuming what you mean is that you are a student, and you wonder what subjects you should study to eventually work in animation.

I'll look into getting you official info from the company. In the meanwhile, Pixar has a link that's pretty good to get started.

http://www.pixar.com/companyinfo/faq/jobs_faq.htm

Study art. Study photography. Study film. Do life drawing... lots and lots of it.

Get Frank and Ollie's "The Illusion of Life" and pour over it.

Study live action... frame by frame.

Draw, paint, sculpt, computer model... do it all... all the time.

Good luck!

Nah, I've already done my three year Animation course in the UK (pone of the better ones available in Europe) and I'm now looking for a way in from that.

I was under the illusion that there was a feeder course in for post grads.....any information anyone?

Here's the only info we've got online right now:

http://corporate.disney.go.com/careers/ ... ation.html

It does have information on how to submit your portfolio and reel.

As for a "feeder course," I don't think such a thing exists. I get the impression that you may be referring to something that existed in the 1970's that was run by Eric Larson.

We've got a situation with too much talent and not enough jobs.

Tell me about it. I've been trying to get my first job for seemingly ages now since I finished my Uni Course. Despite the fact I've done well, and a lot of skills that I can bring to teams and have a successful short, I can't even get to interview stage.

I'm being fobbed off to easily for not knowing that program, this program....but to be honest, I can learn. Theres so much young talent, and no-one is willing to take even a slight risk...

It must be so hard out there. I hope things get better for you.
You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!
