WALL-E

Post by Wonderlicious » August 9th, 2006, 6:57 am

Laughing Place have got news of the title of Pixar's 2008 feature, which is to be called W.A.L. - E. Aside from that, there's no more news about it, but I think it would be fun to speculate what it could be about. From the title, it looks like it could be about Wales, a robot or whales. :P

A triple co-inky-dink it seems. The same happened for me. Maybe seeing a Wally-B type bee in the Cars teaser trailer was a hint hehehehe.

I ventured that it might be a whale too. (or maybe a homage to that Fantasia 2000 thing)

But...wasn't DW talking about adapting a Whale/Moby Dick type film called "The Whale" a few years ago? What happened with that? :?

It's also mentioned here:

Actually, here's what I meant about DW; (I think it's from 2001 or 2002)

This project was probably intended to be in 2d and an "epic" story. Apparently, it went the way of Tusker.

Well - I think this looks fairly solid. I wouldn't say it's a for sure just quite yet but I think there's a lot of credence to the rumor. As for what the movie is about I don't know. My first thought was as I said Andre and Wally B. but I seriously doubt any connection. Looking at Bruce Zick's comment though about having worked on films you'll notice the other two Pixar films he mentions is Bug's Life and Finding Nemo. That sets me up to believe that this is an Andrew Stanton film and it may be more than coincidence that the title W.A.L.-E. is close to "Whale" or a marine creature like would be seen in Finding Nemo. Acronyms are also usually related to what they do so "WALE" or "WhALE" suggests something sub-mariner especially since "W" could easily stand for "Water" or "A" stand for "Aquatic." Also - if this is a Stanton project, then with Bird doing Ratatouille it would mean Docter is still freed up for MI2 and writing TS3.

Perhaps this is the sci-fi flick we've been hearing so much about. Lastly, Zick said he "worked" on it which suggests he's finished with it and it IS set for 2008 since the backgrounds are already done. But I still wonder if this maybe got out a bit early and perhaps Monsters Inc 2 is really next with W.A.L.-E. slated for 2009. Guess we'll just have to wait and see! :)

Really, I don't think we can be sure of anything for certain.

W.A.L.-E.?? Wally's Apocalyptic Leprechaun - Encore, anyone?? ;)

I think it's a code name for Toy Story 3:
"Woody And Lightyear - Encore"
