Disney Accident

Post by askmike1 » April 13th, 2006, 1:19 am

This has nothing to do with animation, but being Disney, I feel it should be mentioned on this site. A woman died in Disney World today on the attraction Mission: Space. It is important to know that we don't have most information now & that the previous death was not Disney's fault.

Mike,

People die in the parks infrequently and when it does happen 99% of the time IT IS the guests' fault!

For a brief time, I trained to work at the parks but I left soon afterwards because of internal/personal disagreements with the park policies and a feeling that I was going to GET KILLED by a guest in a parking accident...!

But seriously, all Disney-bashing aside on the movies and corporate policy decisions, the park accidents have had little to do with cost-cutting on Disney's part. Most of the accidents happen because as people get into the parking lots they throw their common sense away in the trash receptacles next to the trolley pick-up!

Best case in point... On one of the EPCOT rides (might have been Spaceship Earth inside the huge metal sphere upfront), a couple sitting in two different rows tried to pass their baby between each other AS THE RIDE WAS CLIMBING UPHILL! The poor kid fell 10-15 feet to the ground but fortunately was not killed or seriously injured.

Disney's lucky to have close-circuit TVs to prevent numbskulls like that from suing them.

She actually died the next day at a hospital after feeling dizzy after riding Mission: Space.

As an update, the attraction was reopened this morning after finding no problems with it.

As a final update, the woman died from a bleeding in the brain from high blood pressure. The ride was not at fault.

Well, as my experience as a big theme park, rollercoaster and other rides enthousiastic I can say I have had the honour to be backstage in a lot of major theme parks here in Europe. and I can say that rides are always inspected thorougly and will NEVER open if they are defunct. They are also always tested untill they have a 300% (sort of) safety clearance and oly then will they be build in parks and open to the public. Disney itself always has a lot of safety and warning signs before the ride, and anyone who rides the attraction has, by stepping in, agreed to those signs and warnings.

It doesn't occur to me that the female in question here is killed by the ride itself, but more by a illness she already had, and that the attraction perhaps gave the last push and made it worse who knows? But this female has entered the attraction and she knew the dangers before she got in.
