I'm sorry, I just never liked Mulan much. IMO it should have been a lot more serious and true to Chinese culture, the way Pocahontas was. (I think it actually started out this way in production) Both Mulan and Hunchback were way more jokey than they should have been. And we never understand just why Mushu helps her in the first place. Other than the opening song and "Reflection", the songs grate on me no end. And that scene of Mulan going skinny dipping with the guys....kinda icky! How did THAT ever make it in there?

If you look at my DW ratings, I gave Road to El Dorado **1/2 stars. Shark Tale probably rates the same. I wouldn't change any of the others tho.

I love Sinbad and Spirit. If they were released in 1994 under Disney's marketing machine, we'd have seen every five year old with a Sinbad action figure. Seriously.

Actually, I believe that "Shark Tale" and "El Dorado" are both much, much, much, much better than "Spirit". So there!

To each their own, I guess...

I thought Mulan was pretty cool, not perfect, but decent. Now Spirit was a huge disappointment to me, which is a shame because the animation is beautiful.

C'mon, what the heck was HARVEY FIRESTEIN doing in Mulan???? Can anyone explain that to me? And Eddie Murphy? Spare me. The guy must not have thought much of the film because I don't think he did any interviews talking about his role as Mushu, although I could be wrong. The battles looked fake. The characters were cliches all the way. Mulan was a Belle clone who goes to war, Cri-kee was basically Flit from Pocahontas, and Mulan's love interest (can't remember his name) was the least interesting, most wooden Disney male hero in history, whose flip-flop from being angry at Mulan to accepting her as a female is NEVER believable.

I never once believed I was in China. The only part I liked was when Mulan cuts off her hair, there was real power there. No words, very dramatic. The entire film was sorely missing the spectacular visionary appeal and scope of Pocahontas, Aladdin and the Lion King. The story of Mulan has great dramatic possibilites, but they're all squandered in this film, which has one comedy cliche after another. It's a Disney channel cartoon, an episode of House of Mouse. It's an executive vanity project. And yes, I'm going to say, it, 95% of it was because Katzenberg was gone.

Well wha'ever. I disagree with all that. I especially thought Eddie Murphy was fine as Mushu. He was my favorite cahracter.

EDIT: And I don't feel at all that any dramatic possibilities were squandered. I have Kingdom Hearts II, and there's a Mulan world in it. I was disapointed in the Mulan world because of how completely boring it was compared to how epic the movie felt, during the scene in the mountain.
