Funny, I heard Jon Peters offered Joker to Jack during, or directly after, Eastwick, and *then* Nicholson dragged his feet, which had WB going out separately to Robin. He’s right in that WB's offer was to show Nicholson that they weren't going to hang about, but Jack did get offered it first and even had approval of Burton as director (which might have been why he was apprehensive). Burton later felt bad about WB's handling of Williams as a bargaining chip, and lobbied for him to get a crack at Riddler in the third one, though that fell apart when Burton dropped out of directing it. Same story, but different order…everyone has been on record somewhere or other saying they wanted no less than Jack Torrance for Joker from day one, especially when Burton was pushing for wildcard Keaton in the title role. Nicholson was their insurance play! :)

Lovely.

Somehow, I think he might just make it to 105 or so. Regardless, he's a blessing to us.

While I was working on The Sci-Fi Channel miniseries Children of Dune (late-2002 or early-2003), Dick Van Dyke paid a visit to the studio for a tour .. and then went out to lunch with all of us (our VFX crew was only about a dozen artists). It was a very long lunch, during which he told us many stories of his early days in Hollywood. :)

That’s right, he’s a VFX nut as well! Amazing guy. It will indeed be a sad, sad day when we lose him, even if he’s made peace with that. He and Mary Poppins herself would represent nothing less than the end of Old Hollywood itself, really. I can’t think of anyone else of their generation that have had such long careers and made such a mark in so many ways. Blessings indeed. :)

I’m sure Ben at least is familiar with these as they were apparently exclusive to the UK, but the level of quality on these ads is insane:

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift--that is why it's called the present."

Yeah, these play every Crimbo here, as does the original half-hour featurette, which is now over 40 years old!

The original intro for A Charlie Brown Christmas. This is why the opening scene ends so abruptly.

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift--that is why it's called the present."

Love it. I actually have a copy of the special with that opening, thanks to the collecting underground. :)

Archival commercial for the special, complete with another alternate animation:

Original end credits where they actually get to finish the song:

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift--that is why it's called the present."

And now, the cheapest Christmas cartoon ever made.

You aren’t ready.

Incompetence on every level. Even given the low-fi conditions, there’s no need for the poor sound, timing issues and script problems here, and I’ve seen amateur stuff that easily beats this and matches some old-school TV stuff.

But then…give 'em a break…that was 22 years ago! Just think what they could do now! ;)

Made it to 2:46. Decided to tell myself it never existed and is just a “quantum anomaly.”
You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!
