Re: Indiana Jones And The New Disney Movies Thread
Temple of Doom involved the villain ripping out someone's heart. Everyone complained about how it shouldn't have gotten a PG rating and how it portrays Indians as savages who eat monkey brains.
No Millennials and Gen-Zers care about those movies. Millenials and Gen-Zers like Star Wars because it's for little kids.

No need for multiple posts, Geff, for each sentence there! I’ve combined for you.
I will just point out, though, that Spielberg did actually approve a more "sanitised" version of Doom for television showing, and a good thing to come out of the original release was the PG-13 rating, just as Jurassic Park's PG in the UK led to a special advisory note for young children on the VHS edition and a new 12 rating being introduced not long after.
One or more films have to push the boundaries in order for these changes to happen, and in these cases they both happened to be Spielberg films!

And about how nails-on-chalkboard annoying Kate Capshaw was compared to Karen Allen, and then made inappropriate jokes about Lucas and Spielberg going through bad divorces at the time.GeffreyDrogon wrote: ↑November 6th, 2023, 5:05 pmTemple of Doom involved the villain ripping out someone's heart. All the jokes about it being "From the Howard the Duck writers" came later, obviously.

Well, it wasn’t, was it.
Howard came later. Howard was from the TOD writers, not the other way around.
If you want to pick, at least say Doom was from the writers of More American Graffiti!

What do you think is the best Indiana Jones film?

Re: Indiana Jones And The New Disney Movies Thread
Everyone says Raiders, and Crusade gets a lot of surprising love (in that it’s basically a Raiders retread), but if you want a film that’s non-stop action, adventure and excitement, and closest to the true Saturday Morning Serials intent that prompted the series in the first place, and with an ending in which the hero actually *does* something, then it’s Temple Of Doom hands down.
And then there are two other films in the Indiana Jones Trilogy…

Temple for me, too (I like that opening song, then non-stop thrills and fun), though Raiders is pretty awesome in its own right.

Re: Indiana Jones And The New Disney Movies Thread
Then why didn't the first two movies have their ratings changed? They're still PG.

Re: Indiana Jones And The New Disney Movies Thread
Why would they have their ratings changed? The first three Star Wars got the equivalent of G ratings here, which I also think is inappropriate, if that’s the line you’re going down…

Everyone is complaining about how children watch those movies, all because they're PG. They should be changed, or let the government be in charge of rating movies.

Well, not "everyone". They’ve been PG since they came out, and now classics. It’s not like people don’t know what they’re watching.
