I still think it’s a digital thing. Going back to film just embedded everything and knitted it all together a bit more. That photo-chemical process just took the crisp off all that CG fakery and, because there was a good old-fashioned analog layer to things, it feels more "real". There’s a reason 35 year old Jurassic Park dinosaurs look better than 2022 Jurassic World dinosaurs.

Need to watch the Guardians Christmas special and then Vol 3. I really enjoyed the first one again on TV recently, and remember loving the second one at the cinema. Since Endgame, I’ve decided not to pick up any more Marvel on disc, save for No Way Home (which finishes off Peter's story and a nice reset point before things have just got too fractured and disjointed), and would consider G3 s those films have always felt a little bit once removed from the MCU as a whole, so might be a fun way to sign the whole thing off. I look forward to catching them on D+ soon…ish.

Just getting through Guardians 3 now (yes, the fact that I can't get around means I've now caught Bob Chapek's Disease, and I now don't bother with most Disney, Pixar or Marvel until they hit streaming), and it's tonally all over the map.

Because Rocket has to moon around as a persecuted martyr for most of the story, we get zero of his rebellious snark until late in the story, which makes it more depressing, and then disjointed when we have to get back into Gunn's goofy badinage for the rest of the group.
When the wacky sitcom dialogue erupts, I found myself like those Holy Grail characters shouting "Get ON with it!!"

My problem with this one was summed up by Mantis, when she defends Drax's goofy enthusiasm against Nebula's angry criticism with "He's the only one of our team who doesn't hate himself!"

The whole ""just have them keep insulting each other and generally try to make a joke out of everything" vibe really wore thin with me on this one. Juxtaposing that with dealing with a fairly tragic story certainly did give it an uneven tone. For my first visit to a theatre in over 3 years, it was a minor disappointment.

Hopefully Spiderwick producers can convince someone else to air the completed series/season.

I think the streamers are beginning to catch on with what consumers are already working out, that streaming is basically the new cable, delivered online, if ironically and in most cases, still down a cable. Rights will slide around and become more fluid, from more physical releases to series turning up on other services, and indeed free to air.

Disney does need to issue discs for more of its Originals output, now that they must not be grabbing so many eyeballs. I’d love me official 4Ks for Lady And The Tramp, Howard and especially Togo. And maybe the Chip 'n' Dale movie, but that’s all I’d need I think.

I am tempted to get WandaVision's disc... but it still sits there on D+, which I plan to continue for a while.
