But failing internationally, where its debut has been a bit…wet.

Reading those quotes James posted, I've learnt that I cannot simply read the 3 words 'hot, crustacean band'.I have to sing them.
We've got a Long Weekend coming up here in Australia, assuming it's still playing by then - surely it will in 3 weeks. I might make the journey to the cinema to see it.

CNN's reviewer was not kind, either:

Is it weird that I'm still looking forward to seeing it?

I think it’s weird you're using the word "still"…

I also can't easily justify why I own a copy of the live action BATB either, but there ya go.

I've been seeing a lot of behind-the-scenes footage for this movie and all I can think about is what's the point of making a live action adaptation when it relies so much on animation to exist, Kinda defeats the porpoise doesn't it when an animated version already exists.

That's the same question I asked when they released The Lion King remake.

Artistically you're right. And it feels like a fluke when one of these movies is any good. But think about all the jobs these movies create. Studio aren't just pushing these out for the halibut. Sure they hope to make some money but so many people feed their families making them. So it's a bit shellfish to just consider your own opinion of them rather than all the people that rely on them for their livelihood.Bill1978 wrote: ↑May 29th, 2023, 5:34 amI've been seeing a lot of behind-the-scenes footage for this movie and all I can think about is what's the point of making a live action adaptation when it relies so much on animation to exist, Kinda defeats the porpoise doesn't it when an animated version already exists.

Re: Disney's The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
The animated argument has basically been the thinking since they started these, since so many characters or settings have been animated or are CG effects, which only makes these endeavours "redos" of what’s already been done (and largely better). That, and the way they make "demean" the originals to look like animated previz versions…
What I can’t see is how the filmmakers can’t see that what they’re doing doesn’t have the value of the originals. I mean, people like Zemeckis and Marshall and not idiots. Surely they can see these projects as not going the right way. But then, I guess, ego dictates that they think that can make them "better" or more "realistic", when they don’t need to be. Whoever thought TLM would be improved by adding 52 minutes of mostly extra talking to it??
James…if these films didn’t exist, all those people would be working on other, arguable better and more original films. They wouldn’t be out of work, from the writers and directors down to the craftspeople…

The fishy puns make think that wasn't entirely serious!
