Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+
Even my teenage son, a die-hard SW fan who loves everything, hasn't wanted to see Mando S3. He says Andor spoiled him, and the other D+ SW shows just seem bad or immature in comparison. He ain't wrong... though there was much to like in the first two seasons of Mando. For me, the events of Mando 2.5 (Book of Boba) already left my interest waning.

Xactly. It was only the "finale" now streaming that got us to say, well, we may as well start it. As you know, I’ve found Mango a slog from the start. I might just whiz through the eps just to keep up, but all this "bathing in the waters of bollocks" and whatsherface just sitting around in her "castle" — like, she’s just literally *sitting* there, all day, in her castle — just made something silly really silly, and sadly stupid. And the mines that are apparently buried and long gone? Turns out you can just go down a hole and…there they are. So poorly written. Ahsoka better be at least Andor-good if they want the just-announced Filoni (I have yet to worship at that particular altar) film that apparently ties all this up to do any decent business…

Filoni justifiably made his rep with the animated shows, which did include much of the best Star Wars ever. Clone Wars even made Anakin's story work. Too bad the live action shows - aside from Andor - have wandered (and wandered) in the wrong direction.

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+
Oh dear, I see what you mean. The chapter in which we basically disregard everything that came before, has anything to do with this show in general, and starts off what should essentially be its own Andor-type spin-off!?
And it just remains so poorly written and simplistic. "Don't worry, the ship isn’t operational", she says, as she uses the ship's power to open a blast door.
"I’d offer you something to eat, but I guess the helmet is staying on now?" Okay, so how exactly do they eat again? How do they cut their hair? What happens if they sneeze?
I’m reminded of this…

…and that was *intentionally* dumb and moronic ON PURPOSE!

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+
Just stumbled across History Of The World Part II in the D+ Star options over here. Didn’t realise it had landed here yet.
Going on the first half hour so far, the very first opening bit with Mel made me laugh out loud, but the rest is very hit and miss. It looks good in terms of art direction pastiche, but it seems it was more fun to write and perform than actually watch.
Though I did chuckle a bit, the surprising amount of language and f-bombs is disheartening: Mel was never clean-clean, but cursing and swearing in the earlier, funnier films (to mix my comedy Jews) always came over more naughty and cheeky than just thrown in like here, where when it’s used, just has that extra push like they think it’s clever or designed to offend, which is unnecessary.
I’ll give a couple more eps a go, but it’s about as what was expected, nothing more, maybe slightly less. C'mon, Mel, just get that Young Frankenstein musical movie done already! The stage show was fantastically hilarious!

It's been an unfortunate side effect of West Coast Mel--Ben wrote: ↑April 27th, 2023, 5:38 pmThough I did chuckle a bit, the surprising amount of language and f-bombs is disheartening: Mel was never clean-clean, but cursing and swearing in the earlier, funnier films (to mix my comedy Jews) always came over more naughty and cheeky than just thrown in like here, where when it’s used, just has that extra push like they think it’s clever or designed to offend, which is unnecessary.
I thought the unintuitive pottymouthing in History Pt. 1 was Mel sadly trying to make Blazing Saddles happen twice, and all he remembered was the cusswords, the jive black dude, horny Madeline Kahn and mispronounced Harvey Korman, but apparently the problem's more widespread than that.
In his "The 2000 Year Old Man in the Year 2000" album, Mel does a string of Planet Hollywood jokes (a big La-La-Land issue at the time), and drops an F-bomb.
Carl Reiner is understandably surprised: "My goodness, sir, in all the interviews we've done, I've never heard you use that kind of language."
"I've been watching a lot of Martin Scorsese movies."

Okay, so that was funny. Steve Martin in his 1979 live-show remains the one time the f-bomb was used to undeniably surprising funny effect.

I'm assuming the "Matildas" are an Australian team, and didn't name themselves after rebelliously retconned Roald Dahl movie heroines?
(If it was Sony, I'd be more worried.)

You are correct Eric, the Matildas are the national women's football (soccer team) for Australia. The name is a reference to the song Waltzing Matilda and not Roald Dahl's book. Before 1995, they were known as the Female Socceroos.

"Rogue Not Quite One", another Maggie short so D+ won't be accused of doing any "bad" Bart shorts, but still tries to wring any last remaining "The Mouse bought Star Wars AND Simpsons???" shock value out of what we've been perfectly comfortable with for three years now.

Here we go…
Disney and Hulu to become one — kind of — in the US by end of year:
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/busin ... 1235484501
And the big one: they’re going the Warners route to license out content again, as well as — gasp — removing some titles from D+ (and, surprise surprise, upping the advert-supported version's price point):

While I’m all for some alternate releases of some of the originals content, it’d be a shame if it also disappeared from D+ as its "natural home".
