Re: DMC Exclusive Disney Blus
Interesting. If it’s like a CineExplore type visual commentary like on Bambi (did Cinders get one of those too?) then I may be in for this, Pan being my favorite of the 50s films. But it *does* say featurette, so maybe they’re hoping most have forgotten the previous Platinum extra. Maybe they should say "specially added just for Club members" if it’s not actually "created" as an original. Very interesting either way.

Yep, Cindy got one on the Signature Collection. It's also ported on the newest Blu-ray.

Cartoon Research posted excerpts from a vintage 1953 article from Brief magazine back in February, which featured Walt's 'own words' on making Peter Pan.

Re: DMC Exclusive Disney Blus
Thanks Droo — great article!
I think I do actually remember that now. I’m guessing the new version will still be using the old transfer though, as those Walt's Words pieces were not just overlays, like CineExplore, but completely revisualised tracks, even more complicated than a picture-in-picture video commentary. I can’t believe they would go to that length for a DMC exclusive, so am thinking more that this is just the return of the Platinum featurette to what is otherwise the Signature disc, kind of what they did with Snow White.

That Featurette was already in the Signature disc.

Okay, so the new disc will have two things on it called In Walt's Words…!?
Curiouser and curiouser… (oh, no, wait. That’s the other one!)

Latest DMC offer has Peter Pan and Sword in the Stone for June..."Now in new cover art that reflects the original posters!":
https://hellosubscription.com/2023/04/d ... peter-pan/
...Okay, THAT'S cool. And if I didn't have the Target digibook of Pan, and if Sword was actually a good movie, I'd have sprung for it.

Yeah, we've already been discussing it. Shame the new art omits Walt's name!

Re: DMC Exclusive Disney Blus
Some details on the Peter Pan featurette: runs 23 minutes long and it's broken up into the following chapters:
1. Walt Was Peter Pan (2:27)
2. From Page to Stage to Screen (2:50)
3. Peter, Wendy, Hook & Tink (2:25)
4. Off to Never Land (2:11)
5. Putting Pencil to Paper (4:36)
6. Real to Reel (2:49)
7. The Second Star to the Right (1:27)
8. Ideas That Walked the Plank (1:10)
9. In Walt's Words (3:12)
Doesn't sound like the old Platinum extra but not really noteworthy either.

Hmmm…yeah, probably cobbled from a previous featurette. I’d have to check what was on the LaserDisc, but it sounds somewhat familiar, so maybe repurposed content…?

Re: DMC Exclusive Disney Blus
And so it ends. I got the DMC email this morning informing me that final date for orders, at least in Canada, will be in September. Sounds like American members have not heard anything yet, but one would think that is coming. That would seem to put the nail in the coffin for any more DMC exclusives. I am possibly planning one last order. I haven't placed one since Darby and Gnomemobile came out in March of 2022.
DMC blames changing consumer preferences (which is true, as we all know), but DMC output has been lousy for a while. And in Canada, we were only offered those awful bilingual covers for regular retail releases, though covers for the exclusives of clasic titles were just English. Unfortunately, the exclusives have mainly only been for re-releases lately, as DMC stopped bringing out other titles from the vault.
The end of an era. But I won't miss logging in just to decline the monthly offer, and be disappointed that nothing else I want is being made.
