Re: Disney's The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Live action Aladdin had weird Genie CGI in it's first trailer, so it's not unprecedented for Disney to release a remake trailer that's unfinished.
It's funny - on one of the DVDs or Blu of TLM, Mark Dindal and others were talking about how many bubbles they had to draw for the film. I always found that funny...

Yeah, Dindal went from SFX to story and directing. Quite a leap up!
Non-completed VFX shots are part and parcel of teasers and early trails thesedays, but on something as anticipated as this, and clearly a priority for the company or else they wouldn’t have paid $7m+ to put it out during the Oscars, you’d think they’d shove some bubbles in there, even if they were not final. Like how they had the Hulk in an early Infinity War promo, since it was a hero shot that portrayed the intent of the overall film. In this case, substitute bubbles would have been totally acceptable, rather than resulting in the total "lack of bubbles" talk that I’ve seen variously this morning. I’m sure Disney was not hoping that this was the big takeaway from debuting the trail in such a high profile way!

They remade Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella to be the best version of that musical, so that wasn't pointless. And Scuttle is now that type of bird so she can go underwater, it wasn't for no reason.EricJ wrote: ↑March 13th, 2023, 3:18 amI guess I'm just too used to Disney making Ariel black, as "Let's make it diverse!" is their default excuse for doing a pointless remake, all the way back to their "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella".
I can even take Awkwafina as a female BFF Scuttle, since I'm convinced Disney has long since forgotten why they cast her in things, they just do.
As to making Scuttle a gannet for no apparent reason, however...somebody finally needs to slap them upside the head.

...But he DOESN'T go underwater!
Scuttle is Ariel's "expert" on land life, being able to explain the human functions for snarfblatts and dinglehoppers.
That's why they don't hang out underwater like girly BFFs.

You don't realize they are making it so Scuttle can know about life on land as well as check out Ariel's life under the sea?

I know the perspective is a little off in #9 with him being a little more forward, but dang the height difference!

It's amazing that anyone approved that shot to go out. Because as you said, the perspective makes it took like Eric is taking his child out for a walk. Surely there is another shot from that scene where she isn't the height of a toddler.

Re: Disney's The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
The irony is that Ariel is the predator here! How about getting Eric's consent to brainwashing him into kissing her!!!?!???!???
And The Little Mermaid is a period piece. Women at that time were seen and not heard. Not right, but that’s how it was then, and why Ursula sang that. If they don’t like it then set it in modern times!
There have already made enough "modern considerations" in recent projects, now it’s just getting silly with stupid changes that don’t make sense or can be supported in the subtext.
I’ll bet there was even a conversation about removing the word Little from the title so it wasn’t making her overtly frail, vulnerable or condescending towards her. Can we actually even say Mermaid anymore? Shouldn’t it be Mer-young-woman, or Mer-folk-person-who-identifies-as-a-human-female? Kind of a long title, but as long as everyone has something to complain about, eh?
