I’m…not really feeling Chris Pratt's take here. After the initial "let’s a-go", there’s no Italian or even noticeable Brooklyn inflection, and so he just sounds like Chris Pratt. Which is kind of boring and, for those not well versed in the games, like me, doesn’t help this feel to be anything other than yet another typical, hyper-voiced, shouty-shouty in-your-face CG movie.

As you say, a love letter to the franchise, but I fear it’s a love letter that will only be understood or appreciated by the fans. This is doing a lot to show how wow and shiny this will be for them, but not doing much to bring in or appeal to newbies which, as Trek keeps having to remind itself, is what you have to do to sustain a franchise.

As someone with a passing knowledge of the characters, I’m nowhere near sold yet, but I’m excited that you’re excited.

As a kid of the early 80s who grew up on an american mario for two decades his voice is fine with me. Not captain luo or optimus prime but works fine.

Just watched a bunch of reactions to the trailer and half didn't know much about the games but loved the trailer. Ironic the one bad reaction is of course beyond the trailer but she always hates the films trailers.

Trailer got really good reactions from youtube.

Chris Pratt's Mario is easily the weak link. The screams especially.

The little training footage looks incredible! Mario just doesn't sound as natural as the others. The range!

I’m thrilled for the superfans and those that have waited in forever for this to finally come to the screen, but while I can appreciate the franchise and even get many of the nods and references (actually more than I would have expected), I just don’t think this is for me, I’m afraid. I’ll eventually see it on TV sometime somewhere, but it certainly won’t be a blind purchase until I stumble upon it and maybe like more of the elements that have been shared so far. But I hope it lives up to expectations and the excitement for you guys, and that you enjoy it! :)

I'm not a gamer, so it's not for me, either. But even I can see that this looks waaaaaaayy better than the Bob Hoskins one.

Ew, paper toys. Hope we don't get those!

On the earlier clip, just awesome. Love how the score and sound effects are from the actual games and uses game obstacles as a normality. You almost feel yourself pressing "A" to make Mario jump. Love how much stretch and squish there is. I was reminded of Futurama with the traveling through pipes. Visually it looks so fun.

Still not digging Chris' voice, seems a bit inconsistent...

This is just so crazy but I had to post! ;)

You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

They need to do it exactly like that though.
