And, in the print comics, as I remember from my last days of reading New Mutants:

Reformed Magneto makes a good stern martinet leader of the Academy, that the students can't get away with mischief as easily as they could with the Professor, but after a major battle goes wrong, Magneto slips into his old habits of thinking "Charles' dream is dead...", and begins colluding with the Hellfire Club again.
The NM students realize the "betrayal", and drop out of school, only to be found by Cable, who organizes a few of the remaining NM's into X-Force (thus ending the New Mutants comic and starting the new one).

From the other concept art shown, looks like we're also going to get the formation of an X-Force in the cartoon, but only with major characters that've already appeared: Cable, Bishop, Forge, Nightcrawler, Morph, and Bobby "Sunspot" DiCosta.

The previous one-episode appearance of Strong Guy and Wolfsbane from the 90's X-Force doesn't count.
