Ridiculous! Why are they not casting an authentic Italian?
Actually, considering the character, it *is* a little dumb.

So in other words how mario was for the first 15 years he was made. Other then a few cereal ads in the 80s he wasn't Italian till 1996. He was american for almost two decades. (and japanese in japan.)

For what it’s worth, he was always "the Italian plumber" over here, right from the start, in ads and promos.

He was not a plumber here till mario bros arcade years later. He was a construction worker first in the games then in saturday superade worked at paulines circus. Also other then some cereal ads he spoke in a american accent in all the tv ads and cartoons. So 5 cereal ads in over 15 years are the only time he did not have a american accent.
In japan he spoke japenese in all the ads and theatre anime film.

And I think, if I remember right, he was Hoskins' Brooklyn-lite in the infamous live-action movie?

You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

First time mario was Italian and last time till 90s. Also first time he says "here we go." It's kind of crazy how close he sounds like the later voice. Also yes that's the t-1000 from t2 and zack from saved by the bell as kids!

Well they were kind of Italian like one more time pre 96. I forgot about this one! In a really less known ice capades they get the really bad accents. You think the later accents are bad you need to check these accents out. Mr belvidere as bowser and fred flintstone as mario! Also those mario outfits are strange! Why is peach a "come up and see me" actress copy?
Enjoy the cheese.
