Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+
I admit that I held off on Disney+ for a long time as I physically owned everything I tend to re-watch, but once they added Star for the non-US crowd I caved. But I do find myself casually watching Netflix more often than Disney+

Ah, of course. C'mon Disney, just change Hulu's name to Star and lump everything together to make it a truly worldwide streaming service!

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+
I have to ask where the international D+ updates are coming from, if the source hasn't been mentioned already.
(There's a YouTube reactor I follow who gets his Disney movies from D+ Spain, and I'm crossing fingers that they get Watcher or Something Wicked by October even if we over here don't.)

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+
As it should be.
I still don’t get what’s wrong with a three month window between cinema and home viewing, since the time passes so fast. 30 days doesn’t seem enough and 45 days just feels weird. At least give a movie that many people have often spent upwards of two years on a couple of months to find their audiences: 60 days minimum. That’s even less than the average product guarantee!

At the very least 90 days should be the minimum. The industry is slowly devouring itself.

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+
90 days/three months, yes.
But where the windows will and are inevitably shrinking, they will indeed start to cannibalise themselves if they go below 60 days/two months. A film sometimes needs that time to generate word of mouth. The shorter the period the more people will wait four or five weeks just to get a movie at home. The 45 day window is just a month and a half…that’s no time for a promotion to really run between cinema and home release.

No, seriously, WHAT is with studios' constant insistence--as their stuck-to story in defending in-home premieres and digital-VOD pre-orders--that either audiences "want their windows as short as possible!", or that they have to shrink release windows "to combat piracy!"Ben wrote: ↑September 10th, 2021, 8:10 pmI still don’t get what’s wrong with a three month window between cinema and home viewing, since the time passes so fast. 30 days doesn’t seem enough and 45 days just feels weird. Look, just say you want your money as soon as possible because you didn't get it in theaters, you know it and we know it, and it hasn't fooled anyone yet.
Anyone who's been around since the VHS days can remember when the window to a sell-through title was six months (anyone waited for Batman '89 on VHS?), and knowing that most discs now are dated for retail literally a week or two before theatrical release, most of us have sufficient patience above that of a mosquito to wait one decent month or two...
It's been thirty-seven years since they've been using the W-word, don't you think it would have occurred to someone to change the record by this point?

Given the timing, I would say Shang-Chi made enough moolah and showed that they don't need to bother with Premier Access anymore.

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+
Shang-Chi basically followed BW and WandaVision's example and promoted itself as "See it because it's MARVEL! We still don't have a clue yet, but it's been months, and it's Marvel, dammit!"
Of course, now, the star's early comments against the Chinese state have been surfacing, and if this was Disney/Marvel's official entry into China-Mania, Disney's marketing strategy may have a nasty surprise coming..
