Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+
Down in Oz, it’s a shame that it’s not the Ralph Fiennes Great Expectations, which is pretty awesome. This 1998 one I haven’t seen, but that’s a weird cast! And if you’ve never seen it, and just want to cackle yourself silly, go with Stuck On You, the Farrellys' current last hurrah. If you liked Mary and Irene, it’s very much more of the same, and hilarious.

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+
For some reason I actually went to the cinema to watch the 1998 version of Great Expectations. Must have been a slow week at uni and a Tuesday, cause honestly it's not like it's something I would have ran to the video store to rent let alone to the cinema. I have no recollection of the movie except for the memory that Gwyneth Paltrow should never be shot from in profile when in shadow cause my goodness her nose looked big. And to this day that is the first thing I think about whenever she walks onto the screen, in anything she is in.

Funny, I was going to post the same reply, and then your archive raid pulled up exactly what I was going to say...

Actually, there was a Friday 13th two months earlier in 1934, in April. Quite possible they had a screening of The Wise Little Hen on that day, either before a final sound mix or as a finished product before it went out for printing, if that makes you feel any better...

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+
Totally agree, might sit down over the weekend and watch it. I never tire of it. Although I am a bit annoyed that Disney couldn't be bothered to drop at least the first episode of Love, Victor's second season for us non-Americans on Star. Not asking for the entire season a la Hulu but at least one episode this week would have been nice.

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+
And here I was just lamenting that it didn’t come to the UK (unless it’s there already and I just haven’t stumbled upon it yet).
No, it’s not a "magical musical" like the others, and the Roadshow is long, but there are still some great tunes in there, and you can’t go wrong with the effervescent Tommy Steele in anything (I often sing Fortuosity in the mornings! That’s my byword)! Then again, most of the later 60s musicals from any studio were often bloated, long, non-sensical and boring, so Happiest Millionaire at least has all those beat! I’d certainly be up for an Exclusive Blu-ray to replace my letterboxed DVDs!

That's true. "Let's Have A Drink On It" is one of my favorite songs, catchy and funny. Always enjoyed how Tommy's character would address us. Happiest is also special as it's the last film Walt Disney physically had a part in. The length just murks that all up for me!

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+
Fortuosity and Let's Have a Drink on It are two great Disney songs from the 60's/70's Shermans, and the fact that they're at the beginning and end of the movie let you skip most of the dire middle.
I tried watching the Roadshow version, and counting the minutes of actual dialogue between Sherman numbers, and seven minutes was pretty much the record.
It WILL make you take back any bad thing you may have ever said about the first mercilessly padded hour of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang".
(Although I've always been a "Finian's Rainbow" fan, and one time when I asked on a chat "Whatever happened to Tommy Steele, anyway?", somebody responded, "I dunno, maybe his teeth ate him...")
