The first film, The Cat in the Hat, is set to release in 2024. Directed by Rivinoja and Disney story artist Art Hernandez, the movie will feature the original Dr. Seuss story of a cat that shows up at the home of two children while their mother is away. This will be followed by the tentatively titled film Thing One and Thing Two in 2026. Although the film does not have a production team yet, it has more leeway in terms of the plot since it will be a truly original story. The last announced film, Oh, The Places You'll Go!, will feature the last Dr. Seuss book published during the author's lifetime and is set for a 2027 release. Produced by Abrams and Minghella, the movie will follow the story of a boy in pajamas that sets off to see what the world has to offer.
And a nice kind of 50s Warners animation feel too!
Of course, the later de Patie-Freleng specials had a few character crossovers too, as I remember them, so this shared universe isn’t totally fresh and unique. I’m hoping this first TCITH film akso kind of works as it’s own thing too.
Otherwise, the only place Seuss ever had a "shared universe" was the Seussical Broadway musical, and...if you've ever seen it, you'll know why that usually stops the discussion cold.
As for why we're not only getting non-Illumination Seuss CGI, but also a Thing 1&2 spinoff, would I be off in guessing what yellow jabbering spinoff-marketing creatures the Things will uncannily resemble?
What about the wubberus world of dr Seuss and grinch grinches the cat in the hat, search for dr Seuss movie or the 70s Horton hears a who with the grinch cameo? They have crossovers with the books.
