Live action Tom and Jerry Movie

Post by gaastra » January 31st, 2019, 9:58 am

Well more like roger rabbit as they are cg but have a cell shaded 2d look.

Here is what they look like.

How odd!

What’s that image at the top...not from the film, I'm guessing - and hope!?

Having got all prepped up to see them in CG, I wasn’t ready for the hand drawn look. Maybe this is just for the logo? If this is supposed to feed into Warners' Hanna-Barbera universe, why would they not be going CG with this...

I wondered whether the article had grabbed a shot from the old Gene Dietch shorts, but...no. Looks way too 21st-cty.-Flash for that.

I don't think it is--Despite Bill & Joe's connection to it, T&J is the "other" Exploitable Warner Cartoon Franchise (they've given up on Bugs except for basketball) currently being auditioned to save the studio, and considered separate from the Hanna-Barbera-verse.
At least in the sense that 'Scoob!" was supposed to set up a "shared universe" of 70's Saturday-morning Warner Archive series.

I'm thinking those are just placeholders. The designs look exactly like the ones used for The Tom and Jerry Show (2014).

Trailer has leaked in France:

The logo wasn't foolin'! In this day and age, was not expecting a hand drawn hybrid. Lame song choice and Tom's scream should've been lifted. Always one of the funniest parts in the original shorts. The animation looks wonderful though, adding some dimension without going overly CGI with it. Looks good! At least it's not uncanny valley. Classic slapstick, too. I'm optimistic.

Given the small size, I can’t quite work out if this is hand drawn or 2D shaded CG, or halfway inbetween, but it looks like a fun throwback!

Tom's scream, in the original shorts, BTW, was provided by none other than Joe Barbera! Would have been cool if they had lifted it, for that fact alone!

It’s still hard to make out, but I’m thinking this is 2D shaded CG. Pretty well done, though. Would have been fun if Tom had left dents on the two cars he smashes between in the traffic! Nice that it looks a return to the proper old-school violence we loved in the original toons.

WB removing copies. They might as well just give up and release it as it's been seen by most everyone by now.

Arg, I keep missing the bigger uploads! I'll say the biggest giveaway it's combo CGI with hand drawn look is when Tom is "flying" and when he lands on the window casing. The movement he does you can really see the dimension. Pretty neat-o. Again, it's really refreshing to basically see them as they should be and not some ugly hyper realistic clone. (ie Smurfs, Alvin)

Hoping Tom was just dubbed over and not a representation of how he'll really sound. It's possible! ;)

There will be a float in this years no longer canceled Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. I would expect the trailer to go live that day. Sounds like a cool float!

A parade. Why are they having a parade? Seems insane to me.

Because viruses love a parade! Who doesn’t love a parade? Covid will have a ball!
