MGM logo
Heard some negative comments about the new MGM logo, due to it being a bit much and taking away focus from Leo. But after seeing it, I really like it. I'm going to link to it rather than embed it since the video here would be lower resolution:

They've also posted a cool logo evolution video:

And a really nice promo reel:

Re: MGM logo
It’s got a lion roaring in a roll of film! What’s not to like?
I’ve actually not liked the current/previous logo, since it starts close on Leo's eye and it’s an awful still that holds as it pulls back before the footage begins and the really teeny, tiny, can’t-see-it jolt from the still to the moving footage jumps out at me every single time that I hate it!
This one is pretty awesome, finally giving more attention to the Art For Art's Sake maxim that has been overlooked itself for too long.
The *only* thing I would have given more finesse to would be how Leo just kind of fades in, when it would have been cool to have him "step into" the light before the roar. But I’m loving the golden filmstrips and all the glows...this is finally a really nice modern MGM logo!

That was the cool "depth" logo from MGM's first 3-D releases, and they forgot they were still using them.Ben wrote: ↑March 10th, 2021, 12:22 pmI’ve actually not liked the current/previous logo, since it starts close on Leo's eye and it’s an awful still that holds as it pulls back before the footage begins and the really teeny, tiny, can’t-see-it jolt from the still to the moving footage jumps out at me every single time that I hate it!

Re: MGM logo
Wait...they had that logo on the front of Kiss Me Kate's 3D release in 1953...!?

Re: MGM logo
This seems less of a 'drastic change' than their 1968 attempt at rebranding the studio logo .. which, ultimately, only remains in front of 2001: A Space Odyssey. It was also apparently used for the 'road show' theatrical versions of Grand Prix, The Subject Was Roses and Ice Station Zebra .. but doesn't appear on home video releases of those films.
I've always thought this would make a cool t-shirt.
. .
.
But my very favorite version of the M-G-M logo has always been ..
.. well, the Tom & Jerry / Tex Avery openings, in general .. but this one, in particular!

The best MGM logo:
"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift--that is why it's called the present."

Re: MGM logo
I'd almost forgotten that one.
Another very fun version appears in the opening scene of Strange Brew:

Re: MGM logo
Haha...funny, I just mentioned the blue 2001/'68 graphic design one to James in a separate email...thanks for adding the pic Droo. Yes, I love this design too.
Love Strange Brew too...eat your heart out Wayne's World!
As for MGM logo spoofs, don't forget Tom cat as Leo in the Chuck Jones cartoons, and this one, of course...
Tried to set it to play from the logo but the link didn’t want to play ball. It's at 2:36.
