DC Comics/animation crossovers

Post by Randall » March 2nd, 2017, 11:08 pm

Drunk on the success of their reimagined Hanna-Barbera line of comics, DC is set to enter into even stranger new territory...

First, the March 29 crossover specials were announced, teaming up DC super-characters with Hanna-Barbera greats:

That is actually pretty cool. Green Lantern/Space Ghost? Oh, yeah!

But next, things get just wacky, as DC has announced their June Looney Tunes crossovers:

I've got to hand it to them---- they've put great talent on the books. I mean, Mark Texeira does Jonah Hex/Yosemite Sam? That's crazy wonderful! Or a great waste of talent. But to me, these look like terrific fun.

Even crazier are the new comics coming out later as DC expands their Hanna-Barbera line to include Snagglepuss and more. Ruff and Reddy by Howard Chaykin? That's insane! But sign me up!

The current Flintstones comic is an incredible satire of modern life--- bizarre and poignant; and Future Quest combines numerous H-B science and super heroes in a fun, fun, fun story. And Scooby Apocalypse.... what can one say? What initially looked like a desperate, doomed-to-failure initiative has become one of the best lines in comics. Anyone else reading these?

Space Ghost and Green Lantern look like it should have happened a long time ago, but Wonder Woman and Taz is the biggest WTF moment here!

When we have the Suicide Squad/Banana Splits crossover, I get the odd impression the writers aren't taking this very seriously...

And when we get the "artsy" Snugglepuss and...Doggie Daddy?...going for "theatrical pretension", I'm smelling a writer getting sentimental for all those 00's Cartoon Network deconstructions we thought we'd buried forever.
