Batman: MOTP has always been a flipper disc when the movie has been released by itself on DVD. Full-screen and widescreen/anamorphic are on reverse sides of the same disc.
The release at Wal-Mart is the repackaged keepcase edition otherwise identical to the original snap-case released by WB...
The other version of MOTP released as a double-feature DVD with another animated film is probably full-screen only.

As I was getting a new DVD release today (Moribito Volume 3 & 4 as a reduced price 2-disc set), I walked by the Disney section at Best Buy.
Some of the same films on sale at Wal-Mart are actually temporarily cheaper at Best Buy until August 1st. They include The Parent Trap remake, Old Yeller, Treasure Island, Darby O'Gill & The Little People (Sean Connery's first major film), and Ratatouille. Sale price for each of these films is $6.99.

I picked up the brand-new (arrived today) "For All Mankind" documentary on Blu ray and the old Criterion "A Night To Remember" DVD for the price of one Criterion DVD!
"A Night To Remember" is one of the best movies made about you-know-what and "For All Mankind" might be the best film edited from actual NASA flight footage, period.
"FAM" is appropriate since next week is the 40th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The moon landings were arguably the most technologically significant human event of the past 200 years and definitely the true start of space exploration. All the rest of manned exploration is, IMHO, riding around in a big Yo-Yo to nowhere. Apollo was different and more significant than most people realize.
Hardly anything has been said about that significant event lately. The media, as usual, distracts most of us with the latest doings of the vapids in show business and commercial industry.

I think I'll just add to this topic as I find sales on animation titles...
If you live in the US, it's to your advantage to check out your local Big Lots. They're getting a LOT of remainder DVD titles from first-run stores like Best Buy, Borders, Barnes & Noble, etc.
Within the past 3-4 months, I've found the following animation titles for $3 at Big Lots
1) The Animatrix
2) Memories -- a compilation feature film of works from various top-line Japanese animation directors
3) Zegapain 1 & 2
4) About half of Gundam Seed Destiny just showed up at the local Big Lots
5) My-Hime Vol 5 & 6
6) Many, many two-to-four-year-old titles from Bandai and Funimation have started showing up besides the ones mentioned
7) Saw and bought Pinky & the Brain Vol. 2 for $6 today; I was informed a copy or two of Vol. 1 may have been in-stock today but were already sold out
A copy of The New Scooby-Doo Movies set was also on sale for $6 ... Not a Scooby fan but it's an example of another DVD set on remainder being slashed very, very low
These are all still sealed, unwatched copies of past DVD releases. Some are 10 years old, others are as young as 2-3 years old. They all sold for $20, $40, or even close to $50 when they were new releases...
Take a look in your discount stores. The one advantage of a bad economy is that stores have to unload stock that isn't selling and are slashing remainders up to 50%. Specialist discounters like Big Lots give you an even better deal on films that are still great even though they're older home video releases...

At Big Lots I've also seen (and bought) Heavy Traffic for $3.

I've picked up all kinds of great stuff for what feels like pennies -- The Band Wagon, Grand Hotel, Little Caesar, The Public Enemy, Rebel Without A Cause, Dames, Bullitt, Captain Blood, The Curse of Frankenstein, In Cold Blood, Day for Night, The Champ and more!

Re: More cheap remainder DVDs on sale...
I've noticed a lot of WB gangster titles showing up, too, at my local Big Lots.
I bought most of the ones I really wanted in the first two gangster box sets when they're fresh to DVD a few years back.
I've also seen odds and ends of WB DVDs show up at Wal-Mart for around $5, too. It's just that the classics (anything black-and-white made before the 1960s) rarely show up at prices that cheap even at Wally-World (Wal-Mart). Wally-World is definitely more mass-market/mainstream and stocks heavier on family titles and more recent films. Not as good a place to look into for what I'd call classic films. Not a bad idea, though, to check there once in a while. I was surprised by some recent price cutbacks at Wal-Mart on some of the animated superhero sets.
One thing I have noticed is "sawing" on the UPC codes on the back of many WB DVD cases at Big Lots but it's easy enough to change the DVD case if it really bugs you that much.
For $3, I'll live with a sawed-through UPC!
The only bad thing about that, though, is that many stores that do buy used DVDs won't accept DVD cases with damaged UPC.
It's definitely worth keeping an eye on Big Lots to see what comes in each week. I asked an employee and was told the new DVD remainder shipments come in on Mondays and Tuesdays. Considering what I saw pop up this week, I'm definitely keeping an eye out for pops in next week.. Considering the state of the economy and how slow and unremarkable most new releases this summer have been, this is a good time to search for cheap remainder sales!

The only thing I would say here is that there are a great deal of us that are film fans as well as animation aficionados, and indeed you'll see my own posts on the front page push stuff like Gran Torino and others because they may be of interest to our readership.
And, as it has it, both these titles are of interest to me. I can't take advantage of the B&N sale, but I didn't know the NASA doc was even out, so fair play there. And A Night To Remember is a great film and a very good disc that some others here might have wanted to know about.
What I <I>will</I> add is that I'd appreciate it if George could assemble these disc updates in a single thread rather than spinning new ones...but then that's always been a Georgeism that we've been chasing since day one, and he seems to have made the point himself with another recent (animation related) thread. I will admit that George's posts have been a bit DVD-heavy lately, but they have been correctly placed in the right topics and far from being rants or the like have been of genuine interest rather than being unconstructive.

View which stock online, Neal? Wal-Mart or Big Lots?
I doubt Big Lots is that organized. A lot of places that specialize in remainder or used merchandise aren't that organized and won't have their stock online. Many of them, like the Half-Price Books chain, you have to walk in and it's luck if you find something you like.
I skimmed the Big Lots website and there isn't even a search function or movies listed. They have brand names listed by movie studio but that doesn't tell you what a store has in-stock. Sounds like a walk-in to local stores if you want to see what they have.
Anything Wal-Mart sells in-store as well as movie titles not in every Wal-Mart store should be on Walmart.com ... They also do shipping to home addresses from the website.

I meant Big Lots! but it doesn't matter, anyways. The closest one to me (30 minutes away) closed up shop and left. Now the closest is about 2 hours away. There will be one in my college town, though. Maybe some titles will remain until then. I specifically hope to get "Memories".
