Fan rumors about whether the project would quietly disappear during strike delays were all over the Internet, and could swear we already had one about Disney officially dropping foot-mouthed Rachel Ziegler, now that they were going back to square one.

But no--Because studios, once they invest a lot of money in a project they've told themselves can do no wrong, like to sink into denial when early audience reaction suggests they DID do wrong...And they comfort themselves by telling themselves it must have just been those impish lil' fanboys again, stubbornly nitpicking some minor problem that can be quickly fixed in post over the weekend without too much money, in time for the release date.
Which, in this case, would be: "Oh, I see! Disney fans were just too upset about the 'No Dwarves' thing! They just wanted it to be more in the Magical Pixie-Dust Disney Legacy Family Tradition! :D "

(Well-llll...I won't lie, that was PART of it.)

So, the new Sneak Peek.... Am I the only one feeling slightly more optimistic now? Can this be salvaged?

Uh…no. Not as bad as it could have been, but that’s now either not Snow White at all, or too slavishly tied to it. And someone didn’t get the memo that the Wicked Queen is *not* Maleficent…!

Ironically, Jolie was NOT made green for Maleficent.

I think this has gone from being maybe the worst thing ever to maybe being better than live action Pinocchio.

Yeah. I know.

(Shudder!)

"But, hey, it’s not as bad as Pinocchio, right!?"

Her skin isn't green. It was the lighting in that particular shot:

Just want to point out that I never said she was green, but that, clearly, there has been a mixup with Maleficent, most probably from Gadot wanting to appear more like Jolie because, well, that’s the same character, right? ;)

And it annoys me that the point on her cowl isn’t centered to her nose, between her eyebrows properly. I mean, they go to all these great lengths to make elaborate costumes with opulent designs…and then don’t fit them right!

You just know that when this movie flops the headlines are going to be "Disney's Folly".

You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

Sadly, however appropriate, I don’t think people are that clever or knowledgeable anymore… :(

I haven’t watched the above trailer (which appears to be international), but the one I’ve had in theaters a few times really isn’t terrible.

In fact my “hot take” is that everyone online has been massively overreacting to this, to the point where it’s kind of embarrassing. It’s not like this is the first time we got a “feminist” Snow White movie anyway. And the visuals are pretty.

Yes, Zegler made some stupid comments. Years ago. And she hasn’t really made any more of them since then. Yet the press still talks about how she’s given the film “baggage” as though it was some huge celebrity scandal, when it wasn’t. It was just some stupid comments that got blown up because of grifters on YouTube.

And yeah, removing the “true love’s kiss” will be silly if they actually do that, but at the same time, I don’t think it will ruin the movie.

I dunno. I just think people need to calm down.

I think the rumpus was justified. It shut Zegler up and at least had the "magical creatures" switched back to dwarfs, even if they weren’t the actual human performers they should have been because Dinky Dinklage has a massive chip on his shoulder. I just hope all those CG creatures get to sing some kind of happy little working song…

I think the dwarves we have are the “magical creatures”—that’s why they’re done in CGI. I don’t think the discourse changed that.

And really, Dinklage’s comments were the ones that caused the most damage, since it seems that’s what made Disney freak out. That said, I think they were blown way out of proportion too.

But the Zegler hate has just become such a boring, nasty piece of “discussion” on YouTube and Twitter to the point where you have drawings of classic Snow White knocking her unconscious going viral and getting thousands of likes. It actually almost makes me wish she’d say more, because the response has become so extreme that I’m sure she might regret being in the film at all now. Which is sad.
