OMG Will Smith makes Robin Williams sound like a trained professional singer. Will just lacks the enthusiasm that Robin put into the songs. I miss the ad libs of the parade commentators as well. And that clip shows the problem with live adaptation of cartoons, Beauty and The Beast suffered from it as well. The big over the top numbers have to be slowed down to allow human movement and a lot of the energy is lost as a result.

So Jafar does get to sing..? Still seems to be lacking. With this and little they've shown of him on previews, he just seems too quite and wimpy. They should had gone for someone with more presence. Even the two actors they got for Jafar on Once Upon A Time were better. Well, I liked the second actor so much more. I'm not a fan of the 'original' Jafar actor. Just something about him. One of the reasons I couldn't connect to the spin-off...

I preordered the 3D Steelbook from Zavvi, but probably won't get out to the theatre for it. Not with so many other films coming out over the next few weeks.

Aladdin has quietly managed to stay surprisingly strong at the box office. It's locked onto the No. 3 spot domestically for the second straight week while other films drop out. Current domestic total is $263 million, making it the third highest grossing of the year so far and the world-wide total is $724 million.

A sequel is pretty much a given now. Time for The Return of Jafar... Again!

Saw this yesterday. I've said before I'm not a fan of this idea of redoing the animated films. And this did not change that view. Scenes taken from the original film weren't terrible. Most of the new stuff was! Singers not great (that includes Smith). Arrangements really bad. New song jarringly out of place with every other song style-wise.

If they were taking bad animated films and giving them this treatment (changing things up and fixing problems) it might work. But taking films that were so good to begin with, changing things that already worked and letting new directors and writers put their spin on things, is a recipe for disaster -- the new can't help but pale in comparison.

I agree so much. Saw it about week ago and just didn't feel compelled to write anything! Jafar really was the weak link and Iago was just pointless. It left me speechless, for all the wrong reasons...
