Moana 2 has now joined the Top 10 list of the highest-grossing domestic animated movies of all time. Also expected to hit a billion by end of jan!

The reason it's so successful is mostly thanks to how beloved the original is, which I know people here don't like.

I really liked the original. I just haven't heard much good about the sequel, though audiences seem to like it well enough. Still, good for Disney to have a winner on their hands at the box office.

I’m really intrigued to see the new one. No, it’s not going to match up to the original — I think, Farerb, that Eric was the only one who didn’t like it, we're all fans as far as I can make out! — but I’ve conversely been hearing great things from family audiences and other adults about how emotional it is, which is never bad. Who said it wasn’t "good"? Not too sure on the songs, none of which have really jumped out, though I haven’t really heard much, but I’ll be picking up whatever movie disc the Mouse decides to throw at us when the time comes so I can see the whole thing. And I’m likewise pleased that both Pixar and Disney have had big wins at the BO this year, which is where they kind of should be, right?

Moana 2 has a A minus Cinemascore and rt audience score of 86. That's not bad at all. It's huge in japan also right now. They love the movie.

So, people do like the movie even if first is better. Just because it's a follow up to a big movie does not mean it will be a smash it. Just ask joker 2, marvels, caddyshack 2 and gremlins 2.

It's just 61% on RT, though the audience score is much higher. And even the positive reviews from critics are largely tepid.

But yeah, great that audiences like it and that Dis has a hit.

…and it looks like Mufasa might take the top spot this weekend too in a double-whammy comeback.
