It's ok...I definitely see what you guys are saying. I really think he'll look more threatening in the actual film, but like you said I guess we'll judge for ourselves when the film comes out.

Very first review:

Not getting very good reviews so far, not even from fan sites. Breaks my heart a little. :( I'll still be seeing it of course; I think I'll at least enjoy it the first time. Might not go for a second viewing however.

And Singer's already announced that, despite the loss of Hugh Jackman, he's still willing to go with Fox doubling-down their one...oh, sorry, two, now, last remaining Marvel franchises into one "Linked Universe":
After Apocalypse comes the New Mutants--yes, Sunspot, Mirage, Wolfsbane, Warlock, the classic 80's team--since we know the team eventually broke up in the 90's under Cable's leadership to become X-Force.

But they're not planning to use Cable (AFAWK), since the current prominent blood-and-guts member of X-Force is....Deadpool!

Between this and Universal's now officially bats**t-crazy attempts to reboot the Monsters into a "Linked Universe", it's going to be a long, hard next few years before studios take their lumps and realize Only Marvel Can Do the Marvel Universe, because they've had fifty more years experience at it.

Except that all the monsters used to "Meet" in some of Universal's more b-picture orientated later sequels (well over 70 years ago, and based on characters sometimes centuries old!), arguably the beginnings of any "shared universe" concepts long before any other stories, comics or movies did this, so they're only really coming back full circle with their new cycle, and I for one think such a new take could work, if it's done right.

I'm not surprised reviews are so-so (although I didn't think Peter Bradshaw's take was harsh at all). But it just doesn't look that good! First Class was a completely new take while DOFP built on that and went for something that had real depth. This, to all intents and purposes as to what we have seen so far, looks like a step back to basically being a Saturday morning cartoon episode rather than something as groundshaking as something called Apocalypse should be.

As for Singer...he's just doing the usual pre-negotiation speak where he feigns he not that interested so that he gets a bit more from the studio when he eventually and inevitably returns. Unless this doesn't do too well and they again decide to go in their new direction.

So according to Den of Geek, a petition has been formed to "stop Disney from paying critics" to dislike any non-MCU super hero movie as reviews of Apocalypse started to come out with less than glowing reception.

I knew there had to be a reason why I was like the only person who showed any interest in this film during the past two years. Ha.

Sorry Vi. :)

I'll probably see it, but from day one you know I've just felt Apocalypse himself just looks so dumb, and a dumb villain = no real threat.

Unfortunate. Especially when you're called Apocalypse. :(

Okay, they've become so paranoid, they think we like FOX Marvel movies now? :?
DC fans have now OFFICIALLY become the comic-movie equivalent of Trump-rally supporters who thought Bernie Sanders was commanding vast armies of protestors to do his bidding...

(And besides, everyone knows it's only Sony that does fraudulent practices with critic reviews, and it sure as heck didn't save their superhero movie...)

The Wolverine 3 has been confirmed for an R rating now, because of course it has.

I'm not sure what you get out of an R-rated Wolverine beyond a bit more blood and swearing, but maybe I'll be surprised.

Well the last one sure could have used a higher rating, what with its weird *lack* of blood!

The extended cut--which is "unrated"--is more or less an R. It has more blood, but more importantly includes an entire fight scene that was cut from the film in which Wolverine faces a small army of ninjas. It's worth checking out.

I thought about that after I posted. Still waiting to see the unrated cut, probably until Fox decide the Jackman/Singerverse is over and they put a box set out, which seems to happen after every new film comes out. I'll probably leap on whatever they do after this last Wolverine comes out, since that'll be a nice cut-off point to whatever comes next.
