Nintendo DSi: Moving Memo (UgoMemo)

Feast your eyes on:

Now animators everywhere can prototype their plans on the go

I'll give this to Nintendo --

No other game company on Earth knows how to recycle and repackage old hardware better than the Big N!

Still, some of these new DSi applications sound interesting.

A bit more of a Japanese thing, yeah, but I could see a couple of people doing things with that.

UPDATE:

Looked at the video link and ---

I take it back -- that IS a neat software application!

That has to be the cheapest digital lightbox I've seen! Might be more limited than a Cintiq, but definitely 20 times cheaper!

I wonder if these animations can be ported to other platforms? You would think they could at least be saved as GIF animations if not WMV or QuickTime files...

UPDATE @ 4:00 EST 1 Mar 2009: If there's anything I'm really impressed by in media and people, it's cleverness and novelty.

We haven't had a lot of that in a while.

THIS is definitely both clever and novel. Why didn't anybody else think to do this before?

Specific info I've dug up:

- It's free. (That is, you don't need to spend points to download it to DSi.)

- You can draw 999 "pages" per "book"

- There are 8 different frame rates to choose: 0.5fps, 1fps, 2fps, 4fps, 6fps, 12fps, 21fps, and 30fps.

- You can upload your creations to http://ugomemo.hatena.ne.jp/

- Other people can download your creations, and add to it; you'll still be credited as the original artist, or you can opt to block your work from others

I looked at the website for the uploads...

Definitely a job for Babelfish...

It's pretty much all kanji.

Still, it's a neat option for student animators and hobbyists.
