You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

I just saw it yesterday, and I must say, I was quite impressed :D

My boyfriend even liked it! He isn't a huge fan of animated flicks, but he knows quite a bit about surfing. He was surprised at how accurate the film was.

Ack, if it weren't so late I'd actually write a full review, but for now I'll just say that it was awesome, and definately worth seeing in theaters!

I saw it this morning. It was a fun little film. I enjoyed the documentary format, and the surfing was great. Reggie and Mikey were my favorite characters.

But the ultimate question; how is it in comparison to Happy Feet? In your opinion.

In my opinion, they don't have much in common. There was a "Happy Feet" joke at the start of the film (Cody tells the camera, "I don't sing or dance or anything like that"), but that was about it.

My minor gripe with the movie is that occassionally seem to forget about the Sports Doc format, and the characters just interact like they're in a standard animated film. But, again, that's a minor gripe.

Regarding the Surf's Up and Happy Feet comparisons, directors Chris Buck and Ash Brannon recently spoke with AN&V about such, among other things. I forgot to mention the interview in this thread last week. :)

Yeah, I remember, Josh. As always, great interview! :) I just wanted WJ's opinion, since he's seen both.

Btw, thanks for the response, WJ!

Saw this on the weekend. I wasn't thrilled to go initially, but it was my daughter's pick. Surprise! I loved it. It was a stunner, since I hadn't cared much for Open Season, but Surf's Up was a bright, expertly animated and directed movie with a nice message. The "mockumentary about surfing penguins" idea seemed pretty bizarre, bu they made it work with terrific execution.

The DVD and BluRay release has been announced, and I was thrilled to see that it carries two ChubbChubb shorts! Cool!
