This actually looks quite good,
I'm really careful with fantasy movies these days but this looks like this could really work, the cast looks great!!

Eh, it's not really playing that well for me...I think I'll wait for the official trailer.

(The screenshots haven't really given me anything to look at either, other than Nicole Kidman looking all mischievous and stuff.)

Thanks for those images.

Everything in it looks absolutely perfect. Perfect casting, perfect look. Astonishing.

Those shots of Lyra looking petulant are absolutely spot-on.

Looks awesome!! :)
You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

I loved the book and the movie looks amazing. One criticism though: In the book, Lyra's home city is described as being very grungy and foggy (and while reading, one imagines most of the story taking place at night) and the trailer didn't really convey that sense of "lived in-ness". The city looked too clean. I realize that that may have been an asthetic choice on the director's part, but I had the same issue with the Star Wars prequels (the original trilogy's world looked "lived in" and the prequels did not). I don't think that will have any effect on one's enjoyment of the story, but it just doesn't feel right visually. If I had directed it (which I actually had imagined doing before the rights got snapped up a few years ago) I would have gone for a more down and dirty feel. Bring the story down to earth rather than emphasize the fantastic elements as this director seems to be doing. Oh, and one more thing: I would love to see this guy try and make Dust an understandable concept to the masses. Really, does ANYONE except Phillip Pullman know what Dust is supposed to be?

The Golden Compass to premiere this christmas

Post by Kirby-chan » May 9th, 2007, 4:54 pm

Every christmas we get another fantasy movie based off another bestselling fantasy book. This one is The GOlden Compass, personally, being a fan of all three books, so far. I believe that it's gonna either come out as one of the greatest movies to hit the bog screen... or be a huge flop. What do you think?

(Teaser Trailer, you can also find it on the movie site)

Merged Kirby's thread into this one from bullwinkle. Let's keep Golden Compass talk in here, right? :)
