Casino Royale

Post by Christian » November 25th, 2006, 12:39 am

Finally saw it a week after it came out. As far as I'm concerned now Daniel Craig IS James Bond. I've waited 20+ years for this book to be adapted properly into a movie and now it has been done.

Christian. I agree. This movie was totally refreshing. I am a bond fan and had doubts with their choice and getting rid of pierce and no Q or Moneypenny or any of that. And I can happily say I am glad they didnt put it in.

This is definitley in my top 3 bond films.

Very minor gripes: The casino didn't seem grand enough. Bond doesn't smoke a cigar. The cobra/mongoose fight didn't have enough good footage.

Those are minor gripes. I enjoyed it all the way through and even liked the weird, languid epilogue ending.

Did they show the new trailer for "Spider-Man 3" before it?

Finally a movie Chris and I can agree on! ;o)

It was a good reboot to the franchise and I hear that talk is to make it an unofficial trilogy with this story carrying on into the next ones. Eva Green may also be back from what I read.

A couple of gripes: I agree the casino wasn't grand enough and didn't think those scenes were played for maximum suspense though that's what they were going for. I thought the villain was a terrific choice of actor, well in the classic Bond tradition but not being the over the top type we've gotten since the 1980s. I thought the end in Venice was cliche and wasn't terribly impressed by the sinking house. The end-ending felt tacked on without explanation.

Apart from that, I enjoyed it as a Bond film and thought the opening credits were stunning. Craig makes the role his own and easily rules the film.

Q will be back next time...

This is, what I posted as a short review at boxofficefanatic.com

Casino Royale

B+

Pretty good. The action scenes were fantastic and incredibly well done, and Daniel Craig was the perfect choice for the new generation fo bond movies. Eva Green was absolutely fascinating and I was (positive) surprised that this movie had some very deep parts. And again, Daniel Craig is much better than Pierce Brosnan, because Brosnan's Bond's were so much clichee, and Craig just didn't had that. And Craig has just these cool, blue eyes. Wow!

So why do I give this movie a B+ ? Simply, because it felt too long. (especially the poker-scenes) It was a very good movie, but you just felt that it was a little too long.

But, after watching Casino Royale, I'm really excited about the next one in 08. Craig has brought Bond back in a new generation of moviegoers.

B+

Um...
Didn't she die at the end? I mean, I guess she could've survived. But I thought she was dead. (And man, I didn't know I would end up tearing up at this film! ).
Anyway, since this was my first Bond outing, I didn't really know all the ropes. But from where I stand, Daniel was a perfect choice for the role. And the two chase sequences was were great.

And I heard before I went that the Poker scenes were slow. That was okay, since they were good moments for me to run to the bathroom. ;)

Finally saw this. Loved it. My favorite part was the opening credits. Stunning and inventive animation. I loved how Eva Greens face appeared from behind the Queen's card. Best Bond opening visuals and it fits the movie very well. Definitely an amazing reboot. Craig is a worthy Bond.

I still can't believe how much almost everyone loves it. That's just amazing, after those 'KILL CRAIG' things.
