Which Oscar-winning animated film is the best?

Post by Dacey » January 28th, 2006, 10:08 am

With Oscar nominations coming in this Tuesday, I think it is time that we all answer a simple question. Of the four films that have won the prize for Best Animated Film so far, which one deserved it the most?

Pssst, Mods, PLEASE add "The Incredibles" to the poll. I thought I had, but I guess I didn't.

Don't worry about it.

Besides, I can probably add W&G to the poll this time next year. ;)

Good pick.

Especially since it wasn't on the poll earlier. (Thanks, Mods)

I went for The Incredibles too.

As many know, I'm not a huge Japanimation fan, Miyazaki or not. I can see the artistry and the clever interwoven storytelling, but they just do not engage me as filmed entertainments, I don't know why.

So picking from the others on that list, and I think Incredibles really did push the envelope a bit from what came before in terms of plot devices, emotional responses to animated characters, and crossover appeal.

For me, it's tricky which of those are the best. To be honest, I think The Incredibles may have the overall best package to offer. However, Finding Nemo has a wonderful story, great characters, and hits some key emotional notes that I love.

So my vote went to Finding Nemo, though The Incredibles is only about 1/4 of an inch behind.

Spirited Away, hands down.

If it only had the scene with the train on the water, that would be enough.

But it would be very short, and probably only up for Best Short!?! ;)

I too voted for The Incredibles. It's funny, because on first viewing, I thought it was Pixar's weakest (though still a very solid feature), yet I'm loving it even more by each viewing. I'd also like to say that the other features mentioned are also all solid pieces, especially Spirited Away, which is a triumph of the imagination.
