Don't do drugs. Drugs are bad, m'kay?
More seriously, what good ever comes of them? Time after time we read about young actors succumbing to these elements, and from the sounds of what was found in PSH's apartment he had fallen back into those habits in a bad, bad way.
The guy was one of our most talented performers of this generation, and he seemed to be pretty happy in his career: an Oscar for Capote, huge blockbuster income from M:I3 and a continued resume of film and theater roles...maybe for someone with pretty much everything going for him, he had to find new ways of stretching himself, or at least returning to his dangerous old ways. But just like the ever so sad Tony Scott case, this proves that wealth and recognition don't make your inner demons go away, and can probably amplify them in some way.
PSH, unlike many people that we lose along the way, is the kind of guy that really will be missed, still in his prime and with many roles to be filled and performances still to give that we will never see. To make an animation connection, please check out the terrifically emotional Mary & Max, the fairly recent stop-motion feature that he provided one of the two leads' voice for. It's funny, heartwarming and sad...pretty much encapsulating what has been said about PSH as a person.
