(Although, with Disney airing Fox Family Films now, will this make the "Disney's Anastasia & Ferngully" confusion even worse? It was already annoying enough with the 90's VHS generation.)

Yep; Disney now owns not just one, but two Don Bluth films: Anastasia and Titan A.E. (actually .. three, if the Bartok the Magnificent DTV 'counts' as such).


Speaking of Anastasia .. I've recently been seeing posters and banners around L.A. advertising a stage musical at the Hollywood Pantages, which is apparently adapted from the animated feature.

I'm not sure whether Disney has anything to do with that, though.

I'm working 7-day weeks for the foreseeable future, so I doubt I'd be able to catch it while it's here.

Ah, Titan AE...another underrated film. I actually believe Disney could even own a couple of earlier Bluth works too, since Thumbelina and Pebble And The Penguin were orphans before Fox took care of them.

The LA Anastasia is probably the touring version of the Broadway musical, which just closed this summer after a two year run. According to someone I know who saw it earlier this year (and says it’s very good, if often very different from the film), it is still currently on its US tour.

I’m looking forward to catching it here when the West End version opens hopefully next year.

Ben still personally doesn't believe that the "Bartok's Boat" attraction at Sea World Orlando was a product of the Great Fox Tantrum of '98 (the studio freakin' ANNOUNCED they were going to throw it!) after Disney deliberately tried to "sabotage" Anastasia's opening with a sudden unannounced Little Mermaid reissue...

I'll wager he still believes there was no such thing as Anastasia on Ice, or that Fox must have simply done one just because it was "popular".

(Even though I was perfectly happy to discount any theories about it having to do with the B'way musical. That one was just organic.)

It will, the show renewed its contract late last year so should be good for a hwhile.

Not a surprise, though, right? D+ will be strictly G, PG and Disney-branded PG-13 rated family fare, while everything else they own will go to Hulu.

I know it would have been a lot of potential money to give up, but I still think Disney should have offered Universal or Sony all the Fox animated shows (including The Simpsons) in exchange for the Marvel theme park rights or Spiderman movie rights. They still don't feel like a fit with the Disney brand and I don't see the them doing much with them in the future other than steaming the old episodes. Either of those other two things are franchises Disney could happily exploit the heck out of for years to come.

I actually have been thinking about what Fox franchises Disney could consider trading off for that reason James brought up. The two that spring to mind are Alien and Predator. But it has had me thinking of what Disney could do in exchange for the Spider-Man film rights as opposed to the rumored $5 billion price tag Sony is putting on it.
