Forum registration temporarily disabled :UPDATE: registration reopened!

I've temporarily disabled forum registration for new members. We had a huge wave of spambots this morning and that was the only way I could stem the tide! I'll reenable it this evening.

It was the most I've ever seen! At least it wasn't anything obscene.

When registering, do you have a dummy question part enabled? Like 'What is the name of Bart Simpsons mother?" That might help some. Another option I've seen is you have to enter a very long string of capital and lowercase words and numbers.

We have Recaptcha enabled (the "I am not a robot" thing). We also have a system that checks new usernames against a database before allowing registration. So not sure how they got through today. I've also made sure email verification is now on. I can't remember if it was before.

Anyway, registration is open again!
