Well, I totally get where she's coming from. Beating Tami is really the only motivation I have for even putting in a ballot anymore. I just don't follow films enough (or I'm just plain too clueless and un-intuitive) to stay competitive with the big guns.

I saw 6 of the 9 Best Picture nominees... and came in 60th out of 69! So it's probably less about following films or being intuitive and more a bit of luck and a bit of seeing which way the wind is blowing the week before the show!

It'd be interesting to go back and see how late previous winners turned in their ballots.

Just for fun, went back and looked at the last six years worth of winners. The earliest any of them turned their ballot in was six days before the contest. Lesson is to wait I guess! Freaks me out a bit though when no one has entered as the deadline approaches!

I am so bad at this contest. I end up at the bottom every year. This year was extra hard. So many big movies in best picture. Oh well it's the fun of guessing that counts.

All you have to do is predict who is going to win at the 91st Annual Academy Awards (to be held on Sunday, February 24th, and televised on ABC). The person with the most correct picks will win!

For the past few years I've been boring and just picked the winners from each Guild. This year I'm throwing caution to the wind and just gonna vote for my actual favourite (or who I want to win) in each category. It's not like the guilds have ever helped me win, so why not just go with potluck

Of the Best Picture nominations I've seen, A Star is Born is the one I loved the most. Profoundly moving and raw, but it's looking like its award chances have slimmed over the past few weeks.

Still, fingers crossed. Who knows? My votes might just improve its chances.

Anyone (like, opportunistically culture-parasiting singers with little guy-eyes and big guy-shoulders) who think it began with a 70's Barbara Streisand movie about rock singers, needs to. ALSO desperately.

And I've actually seen all four versions, having seen the first three films years ago. The Garland version is heartbreaking, of course, though sadly the so-called "original version" is apparently lost as it was shortened by a studio that was concerned over it being overly long (so the DVD I saw the film on at least has some "original scenes" in terrible condition or including audio only, but maybe that's changed in the years since? I'm a little sketchy on the details regarding how this happened, but it is a darn shame).

For my money, I was a little let down the Gaga version didn't include the moving final line (which actually originates from the 30's version), but her "curtain call" is such an emotionally exhausting moment that I also think it works fine without it. And there's a terrific (and haunting) nod to the Garland film early on with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" being used briefly by Gaga over the opening titles, and her voice has such great classical range that I almost thought it was like a demo track of Garland singing at first!

(And no one thinks it "began" with the Streisand film)
