Re: 2014 Oscar Contest
All of whom went on to become great contributors to this forum, and post here to this day.
Sorry. That was more than a little snarky on my part. But still, it would be nice if this year's winner stuck around for the fun!

Re: 2014 Oscar Contest
Since Jafar was on staff at the time we declared the other guy the winner of the prize. But I think it's fair to give him a share of the title, which is the real prize!
What'd be nice is for one of our regulars to win it! Let's go you slackers!Dacey wrote:...it would be nice if this year's winner stuck around for the fun!

I'm so sorry. I was planning on entering the Oscar contest, but I was busy and I never got around to it. I know the contest is closed, but can you please, please, please accept my last-minute predictions? It would mean so much to me.

Re: 2014 Oscar Contest
OSCAR CONTEST RESULTS!
(Please note if you followed along live, there was a small scoring change. One of the categories wasn't being calculated in everyone's final score. That has been corrected.)
In 2006, 2009, 2010, and 2012 we had two people tie for the top spot in our contest. This year TEN people tied!
Congratulations to rgross3, brobr6, djp2000, GeorgeMonkey, instlouis, Jafar, leonorab, ripkenkid843, WalkingDisaster, and Joe Kenobi! All of them correctly picked 21 out of the 22 categories we count, which is a new AV contest record!
Jafar and leonorab are winners from previous years. leonorab is the first back to back winner. Special congratulations to rgross3 who along with the 21 correct also got both the categories we don't count right, for an overall 23/24!
Unfortunately we only have one prize. So while all ten get the title, only one gets something more tangible. Luckily we have a set of tiebreaker rules set out in advance:
http://www.animatedviews.com/contest/os ... st-tb.html
Tiebreaker #1 is who got the most "animation" categories right. All ten people correctly picked Frozen to win the Best Animated Feature trophy. All ten people correctly picked Gravity to win Best Visual Effects. Only two people correctly predicted Mr. Hublot would win Best Animated Short: Jafar and djp2000.
Since Jafar is a member of our staff he gets bragging rights but is ineligible for the prize -- meaning djp2000 is our prize winner!
Thanks to everyone who played this year! You can see where you placed in the contest here:

Yayyy, LAST PLACE..!!James wrote:Thanks to everyone who played this year! You can see where you placed in the contest here:

Which is to be expected, actually -- since I always vote for the films and actors that I think should win .. not for whom I think the Academy might think should win.

Re: 2014 Oscar Contest - RESULTS ARE IN!
Next-to-last place for me. I get worse at this every year. It doesn't help that I've seen none of the nominated live action films yet.
Interesting that almost no one got the animated short Oscar right! Maybe we were all pulling for Mickey, eh?

I got it wrong but didn't pick Get a Horse, does that count for anything?
